Irrad takes centerstage as the MPL PH Season 11 Player of the Week
Despite making his MPL Philippines Season 11 debut in Week 8, John "Irrad" Abarquez has quickly shown why he belongs in the major league.
The young pro dazzled in his comeback to the professionals with an electric performance in the jungle, knocking Nexplay EVOS out of playoff contention with a 2-0 score and effectively helping RSG Slate Philippines secure fourth place in the regular season rankings.
Irrad received another chance to launch his squad’s disciplined attack in front of the M4 World Champion ECHO, and while he was eventually outlasted, Irrad's mechanical brilliance was on full display when he used the hero Joy to take the equalizer in game two and deny the mighty Purple Orcas the sweep.
The amateur standout put up impressive figures in his first game with the Raiders this season, averaging 4.60 kills, 6.40 assists, and 725 gold per minute vs 3.67 deaths.
Irrad was named Razer-Gold Player of the Week for Week 8 for his outstanding performance and shall receive a Razer Blackshark V2 headset courtesy of Razer Gold.
Despite his stunning performance, the RSG jungler remained somber about reuniting with his teammates and getting the opportunity to play in the pros again.
“It was normal because last season I knew I was just a reserve player, but I was given a chance to play. What I feel now, it’s what I felt back then. I know the ambience of the stage now so I get to play well,” said Irrad.
He added that his stint in the Mobile Legends Development League (MDL) pushed him to perform.
“I was more motivated to do better so I get to climb higher,” the Week 8 MVP added.
Irrad edged ECHO members Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera and Alston “Sanji” Pabico, as well as ONIC Philippines’ EXP Laner Nowee “Ryota” Macasa for the weekly title awarded by the print and online media covering the MPL Philippines, along with the league’s broadcasters and operations team.
