One of the most prestigious esports events, the 2022 Pokémon World Championships will also host its very first Pokémon UNITE Championship Series 2022. The tournament for the mobile MOBA title will feature a $1 Million USD prize pool. The Pokémon UNITE Championship Series 2022 will feature open qualifiers where the top teams from seven regions will compete for a spot in the world championship. Another Pokémon UNITE tournament titled Aeos Cup will also be held sometime in April for players to show off their skills in the tournament. Depending on the region, there may be age limitations for participating players in the tournament.
Pokemon Unite Championship Series 2022 details
Starting this February, Pokémon UNITE players from around the world can participate in a series of monthly online tournaments for a chance to qualify for the Pokémon UNITE 2022 World Championship to be held in London.
The selected regions - Japan, South Korea, Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, South America, and Oceania, will host their own regional qualifiers where the top teams from each region will proceed to the world championship.
Tournament Format
The regional qualifiers will task participating teams to collect as many Champion Points (CP) as possible. CPs are earned based on each team’s performance each month. Members of each team will retain their individual points in case they transfer to other teams as the season progresses.
The regional finale will be held sometime in June. Teams can qualify for the grand finals by meeting one of the following conditions;
Top four teams during the May tournament
Top eight teams by Championship Points
The top twelve teams from the last chance qualifiers
The most dominant teams in the region will earn their tickets to the Pokémon UNITE 2022 World Championship. Japan, South Korea, Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, will have two representatives each whereas South America and Oceania will have one representative each in the world championship.
As part of the Pokémon UNITE Championship Series 2022, the Aeos Cup 2022 will also be held allowing teams to earn more CPs to raise their ranks on the leaderboard.
The registration for the Pokémon UNITE Championship Series 2022 is currently ongoing. However, depending on the region, teams must adhere to age limitations imposed by the tournament organizers. Teams can register through the following link.
Given the fact that Pokémon UNITE has become a global sensation for new players and fans of the Pokémon franchise, it will be interesting to see how big its esports scene will grow in the future.
