The Nexplay EVOS squad returns to their previous boot camp in Pampanga, Philippines due to safety reasons. The team’s pro player Setsuna "Dogie" Ignacio revealed in a vlog posted on 28th September, that the whole squad was allegedly worried about their lifestyle in the Manila boot camp. According to the pro player, the teams were mostly relying on food deliveries, which they feared would increase the risk of contracting COVID-19. The team’s head coach John Michael “Zico” Dizon is also staying in the boot camp. Zico is also being monitored for health issues and the risk mitigation has been beneficial for him.

Nexplay EVOS transfers boot camp due to health concerns

After the fifth week of the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines (PH) Season 8, the Nexplay EVOS squad has decided to go back to its previous boot camp in Pampanga, Philippines. This was revealed by the team’s support player Dogie through one of his daily vlogs.

According to Dogie, the primary reason behind this decision was to let the team focus on their upcoming matches. The players were worried about the pandemic situation in Manila which was becoming quite the cause for concern.

The team has to immediately get back to its winning ways if it wants to secure a spot in the playoffs. Nexplay EVOS is currently sitting in sixth place with three wins and six losses against its name. With that said, having a boot camp where the players can feel safe will bode very well for them.

Dogie also stated the boot camp transfer was a suggestion made by Renejay "RENEJAY" Barcarse. Renejay believes that staying in the Manila boot camp was too much of a risk as the team relied mostly on food delivery services instead of homecooked meals which could have made them susceptible to Covid contraction.

“He (RENEJAY) always say this to me ‘Boss Dogs, I can take risks but we only live once. So it’s better if we’re all safe’,” stated Dogie.

The team’s head coach Zico also had a complication amid the MPL PH Season 8. According to Dogie, it was a kidney stone and Zico is being monitored and advised to not eat too many salty foods. If Zico were to succumb to any complications at the Manila boot camp, the team would not be able to get immediate medical assistance due to the absence of transport.

“It’s scary, what if he (Zico) collapses? They got no car back there (Manila boot camp), we can’t immediately help them,” stated Dogie.

Dogie added that this move is temporary as the team may be moving back to Manila when the MPL PH Season 8 playoffs start. In the meantime, the team strives to do their best to secure a playoffs spot in the final two weeks of the regular season.

Nexplay EVOS is set to open the sixth week of the MPL PH Season 8 with a match against ECHO on 1st Oct 2021 at 6:00 PM (PHT). It will be interesting to see if the team will be able to redeem itself and earn enough points to secure a spot in the playoffs.
