The event will feature 16 teams from 12 different regions competing for the World Championship title.
The CIS region will not be present in the tournament whereas Mekong and Myanmar will return after being absent from the previous world series event.

The M4 World Championship is scheduled to kick off on 1st January 2023. This marks the first major Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament to be held next year. The event will feature 16 top-tier teams from 12 different regions competing for the glory of being the next world champion. The M4 World Championship will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Moonton is yet to announce if the event will allow a live audience at the venue or will the event remain an online event with live broadcasts. For now, only the tournament date has been confirmed, and which regions are included in the event.

Participating regions and their qualifiers

Here is the list of participating regions and their representative leagues which shall send forth their teams:

  • Indonesia - Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Indonesia

  • Philippines - MPL Philippines

  • Malaysia - MPL Malaysia

  • Singapore - MPL Singapore

  • Cambodia - MPL Cambodia

  • Middle East - MPL MENA

  • Myanmar - Myanmar Qualifier

  • Turkey - Turkey Qualifier

  • North America (NA) - North America Qualifier

  • Latin America (LATAM) - MLSL

  • Brazil - MPL Brazil

  • Thailand, Laos, Vietnam - Mekong Qualifier

There are a few changes to the participating regions for the M4 World Championship. The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region will not be attending the upcoming event. Mekong and Myanmar will be making a comeback in the world series tournament after being absent in the previous M3 World Championships.

Format

Group Stage: 1st - 4th January 2023

  • 16 teams are split into 4 groups of 4 teams.

  • Single round robin, all matches are played in a BO1.

  • Group Top 2 advances to Playoffs Upper Bracket

  • Group Bottom 2 advances to Playoffs Lower Bracket

Knockout Stage: 7th - 15th January 2023

  • Double elimination

  • Sixteen teams play in a double-elimination bracket.

  • Eight teams begin in the Upper Bracket, eight in the Lower Bracket.

  • First two rounds of Lower Bracket will be settled in a BO3 series, Grand Final is BO7, the rest will be played in a BO5 match.

Tiebreaker Rule

If multiple teams have the same score, a tiebreaker criteria will decide on who will be the leading team;

2-way Tiebreaker

  • Upper position will be decided by previous head to head.

3-way Tiebreaker

  • The winning match time of three teams will be sorted in ascending order.

  • Bottom 2 teams will face each other in a Bo1 match and the winner will face the team that has the fastest game win. The winner will get the upper position.

Example:

  • Team 1 - 10:00

  • Team 2 - 11:00

  • Team 3 - 12:00

Teams 2 and 3 will play a Bo1 match and the winner will face Team 1 in a Bo1 match.

The winner between Team 1 and Team 2 or 3 will get the upper position.

Prize Pool Distribution

According to Moonton, the tournament will feature an $800,000 USD prize pool, similar to last year’s world series event. Details regarding its prize pool distributions are yet to be revealed.

The M4 World Championship is the pinnacle of MLBB esports. The best teams from around the world will gather on the stage to determine who will win the title of World Champion. In the previous M3 World Championship, the Philippines team, Blacklist International won in a dominant fashion, losing only to one team, the North American representative BloodThirstyKings.
