LPL Orgs Sign Wild Rift Teams Ahead of World Championship 2021 Qualifiers

League of Legends Professional League (LPL) Organizations are now gearing towards an upcoming League of Legends: Wild Rift esports tournament in China. After Riot Games released an alpha test for the mobile MOBA title, TJ Sports, a joint venture company, established by Tencent and Riot Games, announced its plans to establish a Wild Rift Professional league in China. According to a post from Chinese blogging website, Weibo, three separate “tracks” are expected to kick off in the region leading to a pro league. These are the national competition, LPL track, and influencer track. More details regarding the esports plans for Wild Rift in China can be found below.

Update: Due to the typhoon in Shanghai, China, the LPL Warm-up Cup is rescheduled to 27th July 2021.

Wild Rift Esports in China Revealed

TJ Sports, a joint venture company, responsible for the League of Legends PC esports in China known as LPL, announced its ambitious plans in hosting the esports scene for Wild Rift in the region.

16 out of the 17 LPL teams are now gearing for the upcoming esports scene for Wild Rift. One of the LPL teams, Suning, widely known as Suning Gaming, will not be participating in the upcoming Wild Rift tournaments for undisclosed reasons.

The esports scene will start with the Super Burning Warm-up tournament (As translated in Mandarin) which will kick off on 26th July 2021. The final rankings for this tournament will determine the groupings for the LPL Track on September 2021.

Here are the 16 LPL Teams who will be competing in the tournament;

The top dominant teams from the LPL track will also represent China in the upcoming Wild Rift World Championship 2021, which was stated to kick off towards the end of the year.

For the national competition, a total of 32 “non-LPL” teams will compete for a chance to enter the professional league. A total of six slots will be up for grabs in the national competition. The influencer track, on the other hand, will be comprised of six popular streamers forming their own teams and clashing in Wild Rift. One of the influencer teams will get a chance to join the professional league. The entire event will run from August 2021 until January 2022.

TJ Sports stated through their Weibo post that it will be using its 10 years of esports experience from League of Legends PC to develop a robust esports ecosystem for Wild Rift in China. It will be interesting to see how the LPL teams will perform in the esports scene of Wild Rift.
