Krafton recently updated the criteria for the Grand Finals slots of the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 (PMGC 2022). According to the revised format, no Indian team will be able to compete in the grand finals of the tournament.

Prior to this, Krafton filled all the last two remaining slots in the PMGC 2022 League Stage by directly inviting Vampire Esports (Thailand) and Falcon Esports (Saudi Arabia). This completed the allocation of all 48 slots and, thus, ended the possibility for Indian teams to participate in the league stage. Once again, Krafton has shattered the hopes of Indian Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) fans by changing the criteria for the last remaining slot in the grand finals of the tournament.

Krafton reveals the criteria for the last remaining slot in PMGC 2022

The previous PMGC 2022 format allocated 13 slots for teams qualified from the league stage and three for invited teams, resulting in a total of 16 slots. Team SMG and Alter Ego LIMAX were already directly invited to the grand finals of the event, leaving one last slot vacant. Krafton did not reveal any criteria for this slot. As a result, Indian BGMI fans speculated that Krafton would allocate the last slot to an Indian team as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) was still available in the country at that time.

The government of India blocked BGMI in July 2022. Amid the unavailability of the game, no official tournaments were hosted in the country. However, the criteria for the last slot was not updated until now. As a result, fans kept speculating that the slot would be allocated to an Indian team. However, Kraton did not explicitly mention anything, and it was mere speculation.

In a surprising turn of events, Krafton has finally allocated the last remaining slot to one more qualifying team from the league stage of the tournament. Previously 13 slots were assigned to qualifying teams from the league stage, but now Krafton has another slot to it, making it 14 slots. As a result, there is no possibility for any Indian team to participate in the tournament anymore.

PMGC 2022 will feature a prize pool of $4 Million USD. The league stage of the tournament will feature 48 teams, two invited and the rest from regional tournaments. The PMGC 2022 Grand Finals will be a LAN event in Indonesia, with the 16 best teams from across the world competing against each other for the ultimate title and cash prize. The top Fourteen teams from the league stage and three invited teams will form the 16 playing teams of the grand finals.
