PUBG Mobile has been crowned as the winner of 'Esports Mobile Game of the Year' by the Esports Awards 2022.
This was the third time in a row PUBG Mobile was nominated under the category since its inception in 2020.
The previous two iterations of this category had both been won by Free Fire in 2020 and 2021.

PUBG Mobile, just a few days after having crossed the $9 Billion USD milestone in lifetime revenue generation, has been crowned as the 'Esports Mobile Game of the Year' by the Esports Awards 2022. In fact, this is the first time that the mobile battle royale has won under this category, since its inception in 2020.

Despite previous nominations under the category, PUBG Mobile had to concede defeat to Free Fire twice, in 2020 and 2021. This year the efforts made by the publisher to uplift its gameplay and content were on a different level, especially on the competitive front, resulting in this spectacular win against a stacked list of nominees.

A total of eight mobile gaming titles were nominated under the category of 'Esports Mobile Game of the Year' with PUBG Mobile being named as the winner of this category, striking gold after having missed out on a win two years in a row.

All the nominees for this category were as follows:

  1. Free Fire

  2. PUBG Mobile

  3. League of Legends: Wild Rift

  4. Pokemon Unite

  5. Arena of Valor

  6. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB)

  7. Call of Duty: Mobile

  8. Brawl Stars

Out of these eight titles, six have been featured as nominees under this category since the category's addition in 2020 - Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Arena of Valor, MLBB, Call of Duty Mobile, and Brawl Stars, but only two have been crowned as the winners.

This was the second year for Wild Rift to be nominated for this category, while it was a debut for Pokemon Unite, a title that has taken the Indian gaming community by storm since BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) was banned in the country.

On the esports front, PUBG Mobile has witnessed multiple major tournaments like PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021 (PMGC), PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2023 (PMWI), PUBG Mobile Pro League 2022 (PMPL), PUBG Mobile Club Open 2022 (PMCO), and more.

With the year coming to an end, it will be interesting to see which team will be crowned as the champion of PMGC 2022. The final 16 teams from across the globe are ready to take on each other from 6th to 8th January 2023 at the Jakarta International Expo in Jakarta, Indonesia.
