ECHO started strong in its opening-day match against Blacklist International in the MPL PH (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines) Season 12 regular season. The reigning champion closed the series with a 2-0 score, dominating the Codebreakers in a dominant fashion. Through a post-match conference, the team shared how it is not bothered by the thought of defending its title in the upcoming M5 World Championship. According to the team, setting their worries aside allowed them to focus more on winning matches and enjoying the game. However, The ECHO squad did admit that they once had the pressure of winning every tournament they joined after winning the M4 World Championship.
ECHO members set aside the pressure of defending title and just enjoy the journey
ECHO is currently the reigning MPL and world champion in Mobile Legends esports. The team is currently defending its title in the MPL PH Season 12 as well as vying for a slot in the upcoming M5 World Championship.
With a lot of titles to defend this season, ECHO’s star roamer Yawi Tristan "Yawi" Cabrera shared how the team does not feel pressured to defend their championship titles.
“I think there is no more pressure for us because we already lost (in previous tournaments),” he said.
Yawi further elaborated that the team had already broken its win streak in the previous tournaments which removed a heavy load the team was carrying since its victory in M5 and MPL PH Season 11.
“We already lost before. We were pressured to keep winning tournaments and people don't want us to lose but now we know the feeling of losing so we no longer feel pressured, just enjoy always,” he explained.
After the team's back-to-back win back in the M4 World Championship and MPL PH Season 11, ECHO failed to impress the fans with a 3rd place finish in the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) 2023 and 4th place finish in the Snapdragon Pro Series Season 3 SEA MLBB event.
ECHO’s star jungler Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno echoed Yawi’s statement, claiming that not thinking about defending multiple titles actually helped the team improve its performance.
“We no longer have to think about it too much when playing so it felt like a load off our chest, that we should always be winning,” said the star jungler.
ECHO is set to continue its momentum in the first week of the MPL PH Season 12 regular season against ONIC PH on 9th September at 7:30 PM (PHT). It will be interesting to see if the team will be able to defend its title this season and win a ticket to the M5 World Championship.
