After the conclusion of the seventh season of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League - Philippines (MPL PH), Moonton is reportedly planning on shifting the tournament into a franchise model, according to Tiebreaker Times. If the franchise system gets implemented, the tournament will have eight teams for the upcoming season. All eight teams will likely be required to pay a one-time franchise fee, similar to the process followed by MPL Indonesia. MPL PH Plans to Shift to Franchise Model

According to Tiebreaker Times, MPL PH is looking to shift to a franchise-based model, similar to MPL Indonesia. This will eliminate qualifiers which would also mean that the bottom two teams from the tournament will no longer be eliminated.

“The organizations had a meeting with Moonton but it’s just a proposal. Hopefully, it pushes through by the end of July once they all paid up,” stated a source speaking to the Tiebreaker Times.

The report states that there will be eight participating teams in the upcoming MPL PH season 8 and that each team is required to pay a one-time franchise fee in order to participate in the tournament. The league can expand into ten teams if the eight other teams approve. Each team can sign at least 10 players, with age not being a barrier in the upcoming MPL PH season 8.

Following this news, Nexplay Esports head coach Setsuna “Akosi Dogie” Ignacio also hinted that the upcoming MPL PH Season 8 will adopt a franchise-based model.

“Just to give you guys a heads up, I think the MPL PH Season 8 will be 100% franchise-based,” stated Akosi Dogie.

Through his vlog, the coach stated that MPL PH is ready for a franchise-based model and his team might have a new roster in the near future.

Why is MPL PH Season 8 Moving to a Franchise League

A franchised league will give teams and players a standardized system that makes it even more convenient for all parties involved through contracts, fixed salaries or revenue, and stricter rules and regulations.

This also provides job security for MLBB esports pros as there will no longer be relegations. Player contracts will also have a minimum salary and a minimum length of six months per season.

With the implementation of a franchise-based model, the emergence of an MPL Development League might also arrive, allowing academy teams to compete in the tournament.

Moonton is yet to officially announce its plans for the upcoming MPL PH Season 8. Fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for more updates. However, it will be interesting to see if a franchise-based model will help improve the MLBB esports ecosystem in the Philippines.
