  • A new PUBG Mobile asset was discovered which hints at PUBG Mobile’s re-release in India as Battlegrounds Mobile India.
  • Multiple domains which bear resemblance to the Battlegrounds Mobile India name were purchased by Krafton Inc in March.
  • Players should wait for an official announcement as it is unknown if the game will be approved by the Indian government.

A new PUBG Mobile asset which hints at PUBG Mobile’s re-release in India was discovered by Gemwire earlier today. The datamined asset has a “Battlegrounds Mobile India” text which could possibly be the new name of the India-exclusive game KRAFTON announced on November 12, 2020. Several domains bearing resemblance to the “Battlegrounds India” moniker were also registered by KRAFTON which adds more credence to this speculation.

PUBG Mobile was working towards a potential re-release during Diwali in 2020 and some official assets were discovered which showcased a phone with “PUBG Mobile India” displayed on it in a Diwali-themed background. A new asset was discovered recently which showcases a different text that states “Battlegrounds Mobile India” and “Coming Soon”.

The Battlegrounds Mobile India domains were registered by KRAFTON according to Whois

Multiple domains which bear resemblance to the Battlegrounds Mobile India name were purchased by Krafton Inc on March 18th, 2021. These include:

  • battlegroundsmin.com
  • battlegroundsmindia.com
  • battlegroundsmobilein.com
  • battlegroundsmobileindia.com

The new leaked asset falls in line with KRAFTON’s exclusive statement to AFK Gaming about an India-exclusive version of PUBG in India. However, KRAFTON is yet to confirm a release date. Recently, at the India Gaming Conference 2021, KRAFTON’s Head-Corporate Development Sean Hyunil Sohn talked about PUBG Mobile’s re-release stating that “we will work hard to make it happen.”

While this new information certainly seems exciting for fans, players should not get their hopes up just yet. For all we know, this could simply be an unused asset from PUBG Mobile India’s announcement. There is no official confirmation from KRAFTON of PUBG Studio about PUBG Mobile being unbanned or an Indian version of the popular battle royale being approved. Players should wait for an official announcement as it is unknown if the game will be approved by the Indian government following the ban last year.

KRAFTON announced a $100 million investment last year to "cultivate the local video game, esports, entertainment, and IT industries". It also created an Indian subsidiary that recently donated INR 15,000,000 towards COVID relief efforts in India. While the studio is working towards a potential re-release, fans should keep their expectations in check for now. It is recommended to wait for an official confirmation from KRAFTON’s end as the Indian government’s intentions with regards to PUBG Mobile’s re-release are currently unknown.
