EA’s mobile studio Industrial Toys has partnered with DICE to develop a new Battlefield game exclusively for mobile devices. The game is expected to launch sometime in 2022 for smartphones and tablets. EA revealed that the game has undergone years of prototyping and the Battlefield franchise is finally ready to move forward and bring the classic action title to mobile devices. The game is a standalone title, separate from the PC and console version of Battlefield’s new game which is set to launch later this year. The upcoming Battlefield mobile game will be a “fully-fledged, skill-based” game that is now in its testing period.
Battlefield Mobile: What to Expect
This is not the first “lite” Battlefield experience with BF Heroes offering a free-to-play model supported by microtransactions. It was less demanding than traditional Battlefield games which are known for their graphical fidelity and demanding specifications. The upcoming untitled Battlefield game for mobile devices will be completely standalone. DICE General Manager Oskar Gabrielson revealed in a blog post that it is “a completely different game from the one we’re making for console and PC, designed specifically for the mobile platform.”
According to Gabrielson, the title will offer a full-fledged “skill-based experience”. The game is currently in its testing phase and more details on the title will be available later this year. It remains to be seen what modes are brought forward from the standard Battlefield games from PC and console.
A New Battlefield Game is In the Works for PC and Console
EA is also working on a new Battlefield game which will launch later this year for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. DICE revealed that it has the biggest development team ever working on the title and has set huge expectations from fans for the upcoming title.
Gabrielson revealed "We're in daily playtesting mode right now: polishing, balancing and making the best possible Battlefield game we can. I can tell you it is a bold step. It has everything we love about Battlefield – and takes all of it to the next level. Epic scale. All-out military warfare. Crazy, unexpected moments. Game-changing destruction. Massive battles, packed with more players and mayhem than ever before. All brought to life with the power of next-gen consoles and PCs.”
The DICE General Manager indicated that the game is coming to next-gen consoles and PCs and it remains to be seen if the title will launch on older-gen devices like the PS4 and Xbox One. More details on the game will be revealed on a later date.
