Activision’s mobile shooter title Call of Duty: Mobile has been officially banned in Iran. The Iran COD Mobile community was left shocked as the publisher closed its doors for the players in the said region on April 12, 2021. Iran players who log in to the game are met with an in-game message that says “Unfortunately, we are not yet ready to release the game in your area,” which left fans confused as COD Mobile has been playable just a few days ago. Unfortunately, neither Activision nor the Iranian government has released a statement about this matter.

COD Mobile Gets Banned in Iran

Despite having access to COD Mobile since its initial release in October 2019, fans from Iran are suddenly blocked from playing the game on April 12, 2021. This went as a surprise as there were no official announcements regarding the closure of the game in the said region.

Players who tried to open the mobile game are met with a message that says “Unfortunately, we are not yet ready to release the game in your area,” preventing them from playing the game. Players who force their way into the game using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and other means have reportedly received a 10-year account ban.

Why is COD Mobile Banned in Iran?

The nature of the sudden ban of COD Mobile in Iran still remains a mystery as neither the Iranian Government nor the publisher of COD Mobile, Activision, has released an official statement regarding the current issue.

However, the COD Mobile community has made some unsubstantiated speculation indicating that this might be due to the increasing tension between the United States and the Iranian government which led the US to impose financial sanctions on Iran which further damages the local gaming market. This statement is pure speculation so take this statement with a grain of salt.

This sudden ban of COD Mobile in Iran has negatively impacted a lot of Iranian fans who have sunk in hours and money into the mobile game. It is still unknown whether COD Mobile will someday open its doors again for Iranian fans. Players in the said region will have to keep an eye out for more updates from Activision themselves.
