Nexplay Esports Wins the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series: Preseason - Philippines

Nexplay Esports has won the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series: Preseason - Philippines. The action-packed tournament concluded on March 21, 2020, where we saw Nexplay Esports dominate Sunsparks in a flawless 4-0 victory in the Grand Finals. The tournament as a whole seemed like a walk in the park for Nexplay Esports as they seemed to be one step ahead of their enemies in every match. As the champions of the SEA Icon Series 2021: Preseason - Philippines, Nexplay Esports will be one of the teams to compete in the Wild Rift SEA Icon series: Summer Season, an 8-week long competition against the best teams in each region.

Teams from across the Philippines showcased their skills, with Nexplay Esports rising to the top ranks by dominating the rest of the playing field, including Sunsparks in a BO5 match in the grand finals. Their flawless victory can be attributed to their dynamic duo Juschie, the Jungler, and Arisen, Baron Laner. 

In the first game and second games, Sunspark had a disappointing run, scoring only five kills in the first game and eight kills in the second. Nexplay even proceeded to make their Baron Lane vulnerable to focus on initiating team fights and being ahead in gold income. Juschie’s impressive rotations gave Sunsparks a terrible headache. They couldn’t keep up on Nexplay’s rotations, giving way for Juschie’s Cammile to casually gank lanes and deliver kills for his team, allowing them to secure a 2-0 lead. 

For the third game, Arisen showed his impressive mastery of Akali with a surprise double kill during the 5-minute mark as he caught 5722’s Aurelion Sol and DevilJ’s Fiora. Arisen was left with a sliver of HP but eventually died due to the ignite spell after the 2v1 battle in Baron Lane. At the 11-minute mark, Sunspark, with an open middle lane tried to go for one last team fight but failed to protect their Nexus, which gave Nexplay their third win.

During the fourth game, Nexplay focused on taking down the middle turrets. At the 8-minute mark, Sunspark no longer has an outer turret in the middle lane, which made things much more difficult for them. Sunspark managed to steal dragons from Nexplay, but their base was so vulnerable that they couldn’t stop Nexplay from pushing forward and ending the match 4-0.

As a result, Nexplay Esports took home the Wild Rift SEA Icon Series: Preseason - Philippines championship and $2,500 USD in prize money. Eight teams including Bren Esports, Execration, Rex Regum Qeuon, Team Secret, Liyab Esports, Omega Esports, Sunsparks, and Nexplay Esports took part in this tournament.
