PUBG Mobile has been in a tight spot since it got banned in certain regions across South Asia. But that didn’t stop its fanbase from ever-expanding. The very first PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2020: Season Zero has broken the last viewership record of 1.1 million viewers, set in PUBG Mobile World League 2019 (PMWL 2019).

What is PMGC 2020?
The PMGC 2020 was originally planned to be a 20-team event. But Tencent announced that the number of teams has been increased to 24. The teams are composed of either qualified or invited professional teams to compete for the prize pool of $2 million USD. The event runs from Nov. 24 until Dec. 20, 2020.

PMGC 2020 Shatters Viewership Records
The PMGC 2020: Season Zero is undeniably the biggest PUBG Mobile Esports event of the year so far. According to Esports Charts, the second day of the first Super Weekend peaked at 1,588,477 viewers. The average viewership has also been good after four days of competition and over 24 hours of the live broadcast. According to Esports Charts, the live broadcast garnered an average of 545,149 viewers who watched the stream. These statistics are based on data collected from Facebook, Nimo TV, Twitch, and Youtube. The PMGC was broadcasted in 13 languages.
This impressive milestone has been achieved, despite teams from India, PUBG Mobile’s biggest region in terms of downloads, not competing in it. The game was banned in the country last September alongside 117 other apps due to legal issues. The company is doing its best to open up PUBG Mobile once again to its Indian fans. The PUBG Mobile Pro League(PMPL) saw a decline in viewership because of this ban. Despite the hurdle, the influence PUBG Mobile has on other regions and the still considerable interest it has from India have managed to fill this gap and push it to new heights.
This amazing milestone will definitely pave the way for another great year in 2021. Tencent announced PUBG Mobile Esports 2021 with over $14 million USD prize pool. PUBG Mobile keeps getting better and it continues to garner more players and fans every year.
The $2 million PMGC season zero will run until Dec. 20. The top 16 teams from this event will advance to the PMGC Finals in Jan. 2021.
