The two top teams from the league stage resumed their intense rivalry on the opening day of the PMWL grand finals and now occupy the top two spots on the table. Vietnam’s BOX Gaming had a stellar start, picking up the opening chicken dinner followed by 2 second place finishes to build themselves a solid lead. Defending world champions Bigetron struck back with a chicken dinner in game 3 followed by 2 second places of their own to keep things tight at the top.

Taiwan Impresses With 2 Chicken Dinners

Taiwan’s U Level Up were the only team to snag two dinners on day 1, finishing the day in third place. This is a massive improvement from the team who ended 15th in the league stage. Meanwhile Vietnam’s BOX Gaming ended the day on top with 110 points averaging a solid 7.5 kills per game. Bigetron Red Aliens, looking for their second major trophy, end the day 23 points behind but the gap is a good reminder of what took place in the league stage. BOX were leading right up until the last game, when BTR took a 10 kill WWCD and became the league stage champions. With 3 more days of play remaining, the lead for either team isn’t decisive and neither can afford a slip up, if they are to be crowned champions of the eastern division.

South Asian Teams Stay In the Running

While there was nothing impressive about the performance of the South Asian squads, they are still in the middle of the pack thanks to relatively consistent showings. Megastars, Orange Rock and Team IND are all in the top half of the table alongside RRQ Athena, TSM-Entity, GXR-Celtz and Team Secret. However, judging by the league stage performance, South Asia, as a region, have a lot to do if they are to compete for the top spot.

Tough Day for KoG and Yoodo Gank

Day 1 was a tough break for SEA champions, Yoodo Gank and Thailand's King of Gamers. While Yoodo had a bad run in the league stage after a strong start, KoG finished in 4th place in the league stage. Both teams are considered quite strong and it's a bit of a surprise to see them in the bottom two spots. However, with 3 days remaining, pretty much all the teams have a good shot at making a comeback and everyone should be aiming for the top spot.
