A day after the Indian government banned 59 Chinese applications, including popular ones such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Clash of Kings, TikTok, Shareit, etc, citing threat to national security and sovereignty, Mobile Legends’ developer Moonton has sent a message to the Indian players.

More Information on Mobile Legends’ Ban

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) along with 58 other Chinese apps was banned in India on 29th June 2020.

This action comes as political and military tensions between India and China continue to escalate since the Galwan Valley clash between the Indian Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army on 15th June 2020. The official statement released by the Indian government states, “The Ministry of Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India.”

However, despite the ban on the app, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is still available on the Google Play store at the time of writing. In fact, most of the banned applications are still available on the platform. While the ban orders have already been issued by the government, it is quite likely that Google and Apple may take some time to act upon the government’s decision.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) had been going strong on the list of top apps, placing at #48 on the Google Play Store since April of 2020. Before the ban, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) was picking up pace in the Indian market with local tournaments happening and a growing community.

There are also growing concerns over popular esports title PUBG MOBILE, following Mobile Legends’ ban. Although the game has Korean roots, the mobile app was developed by the Chinese company, Tencent and is easily the most popular esports title in the country. A ban to PUBG Mobile could cripple India’s growing esports ecosystem.
