Paytm First Games Enters Mobile Esports In India. Announces Clash Royale Tournament In Partnership With Supercell

Paytm First Games has partnered with Supercell to announce a Clash Royale tournament in India. The tournament will take place from 10th to 12th April with a prize pool of INR 4 lakhs (USD 5K) and will allow up to 512 players to participate online in a Single Elimination format via the Paytm First Games app. The final rounds of the tournament will be broadcasted live on YouTube and Paytm Inbox.

In a release sent to AFK Gaming, Sudhanshu Gupta, COO, Paytm First Games said, “With Clash Royale, we are entering into e-sporting leagues and bringing the best of global mobile gaming for Indian fans. We believe that this will serve as a great stress buster during the lockdown period and will engage gaming enthusiasts.”

The announcement comes at a time when India is under a government imposed 21-day lockd own due to the on-going pandemic.

Mobile Games Continues to Lead The Way in India

The platform claims to have witnessed over 200% growth in March with more than 75,000 new users joining the platform every day. It also claims to have over half a million daily active gamers on the platform spending between 30 and 45 minutes. Paytm First Games is a joint venture between Alibaba Groups’ AGTech and Paytm. In October 2019, Paytm First Games reportedly raised USD 20 million from AGTech and One97 Communications Limited (the company that owns Paytm). On its website, the platform states that it currently offers over 300 games with the ability for users to win upto INR 5 Crore (USD 659K) in cash every day.

In January, real money gaming platform Mobile Premier League (MPL) revealed that it had partnered with the Indian esports platform SoStronk to offer competitions for PUBG MOBILE, Free Fire and CS:GO via MPL. Esports has been on a steady upward trajectory in India with prize money witnessing a 180% YoY growth in 2019, with the majority of this growth coming via mobile esport titles.
