Singapore based actor and singer JJ Lin’s esport organization, SMG has decided to buy into the MPL or MLBB Professional League by acquiring a roster. The team formerly known as Makan Cendol has been picked up by JJ Lin’s brand, Still Moving Under Fire or SMG.

The 38-year old entertainment star is a known gamer and fan of the MOBA genre and has been associated with the Dota 2 franchise in the past. His love for the MOBA genre has translated to him having a music pack in Dota 2 and starting an esport organization with former Dota 2 coach Kenchi Yap.

Currently in its fifth season, the MPL - Malaysia/Singapore is one of the three active MLBB Leagues with Indonesia and Philippines being the other two. It has grown into a prime property, because of the popularity of the title in the SEA region and the efforts made to establish an esports ecosystem.

The team will play in the $100,000 prize pool tournament, which kicks off on the 29th of February. The six week long league will see the top Malaysian and Singaporean teams face off in a 10 team round-robin league. At the end of the league stage, the top 8 teams will head into the Playoffs stage, which will take place on the 18th and 19th of April.

Lin said in the press release: “I‘ve grown to love the MOBA genre ever since DOTA was first released on the Warcraft 3 custom game platform. It has since fuelled my passion for e-sports. By teaming up with Kenchi Yap in establishing Team SMG Southeast Asia, we are another step closer to our global vision for e-sports.”
