Among the top esports stories of 2019 in India, Fnatic’s entry is definitely in the upper echelons. While the global powerhouse was welcomed with much pomp and fanfare, their first outing quickly turned south as despite the top names, the team looked directionless in their games. Since their lowly 9th place finish at the PMCO South Asia qualifiers, the team has made a few changes, swapping out one of their players and adding a new coach. For the time being, these changes seem to be working as the team are looking much fresher and stronger than their previous outings.
While it is still early days for the squad, the team has two big LANs on the horizon - the Peacekeeper Elite International Championships and the PUBG Mobile All Stars Finale. However, the importance of organizational support is one of the key things that sparked this change. Investing time with the team, adding a coach and having the willingness to be patient are all key factors in helping the team grow. The newfound confidence has allowed the team to flourish and despite missing a key figure in Scout, the rest of the players showed consistency and tenacity to top the tables after seven days of play.
While it was a close affair, Fnatic held off Team IND who had seven chicken dinners, by just 5 points. While Fnatic themselves were neither the team with the most kills, nor with the most placement points, they reached the top through consistency across the games. Now the team will have to be ready for an even harder test as they meet the 15 other teams on LAN for the big showdown. Quite a few of the new squads are looking incredibly sharp, especially IND and Seven Seas. ETG.Brawlers also continue to be one of the top contenders, and showed their aggressive playstyle, finishing the phase with the most number of kills. For their win Fnatic will receive 5 lakh INR.
All 16 teams will now be in action at the grand finale, which will take place on the 21st and 22nd of November in Hyderabad. The total prize pool for the event in INR 50 lakh or 70K USD.
