The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports scene is nothing short of local and international tournaments hosted around the world. One of the most well-known events is the official professional and amateur leagues which are hosted twice a year from selected regions. The professional leagues serve as qualifiers for various international events such as the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup  (MSC) or the MLBB World Series Championships. The amateur leagues, on the other hand, serve as a breeding ground for the next generation of amateurs that shall soon compete in the professional league. A lot of fans tune in to these amateur tournaments where surprising youngbloods are discovered and showcase their promising talents.

What does MDL mean in MLBB?

MDL means Mobile Legends Development League, a regional amateur league hosted by Moonton. Esports teams from the professional league sign a team of promising amateurs in the tournament in hopes of preparing them for future promotions to compete in the big leagues.

Various amateur teams who are not part of the MLBB Professional League (MPL) are also invited through qualifiers. This adds more diversity to the tournament allowing pro teams to scout for more promising talents. Amateur talents who have bring about a huge impact to their teams in MDL events are likely to get promoted or recruited by MPL teams.

Aside from being considered as a breeding ground for young talents, MPL teams can also have their MDL talents promoted to the professional league during the mid-season. Veterans who also wish to hone their skills without affecting the performance of their team can also join the MDL where they can explore and improve their playstyle alongside other talents.

Moonton’s official amateur league is only available to selected regions that also have a professional league. However, the game publisher hopes to expand the MLBB esports scene and host more professional and amateur league events around the world in the future.
