Garena Free Fire
The government of India banned Garena’s popular battle royale game Free Fire in February 2022. Despite the ban, many players are still interested in playing the game and have found ways to access it. Even though Free Fire is the global version of the game and is not designed exclusively for the Indian audience, players do not need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access the game. How to download Free Fire in India?
Since Free Fire is unavailable on Google Play Store, you can download the APK file of the game from mirror sources, like APK Pure or APK Fab. Follow the below-given steps to download, install, and play Free Fire in India.
Click on the following links to download Free Fire from respective platforms: APK Pure or APK Mirror.
Once you have downloaded the Free Fire APK file, locate it on your device. Please note that the default download location is Internal Storage > Download.
After opening the file, a dialog box will appear, asking you to confirm whether you want to install the app. Click on the “Install” button to proceed.
If prompted, allow the file manager to install applications from untrusted sources.
Once the installation completes, you can open the game and start playing.
If you download the APK successfully, but your device prevents you from installing the game, follow the below-given steps:
Navigate to Setting > Security.
Check the option “Unknown sources.“
Tap OK on the prompt message.
Select “Trust.”
Some devices may have slightly different menus, but you can search for “unknown sources” and navigate to the setting to enable it. Enabling this allows you to download any APK files online and install them.

Will I get banned for sideloading Free Fire on Android?
Currently, players are not getting banned for sideloading the game on Android. Nevertheless, since the game has been banned in India, it remains uncertain how long Garena will continue offering its services in the country. If the publisher decides to discontinue its service, players will be restricted from accessing the game completely, even if they sideload the game.
It is worth noting that the enhanced version of the game, Free Fire MAX, is still available in the country as the government did not impose a ban on it. Players who are unable to access the original version of the game or if Garena decides to shut down the original of the game, players can switch to Free Fire MAX.
Most importantly, owing to the Firelink technology, Free Fire MAX players can cross-play with the original Free Fire users without a problem. Additionally, players who switch from Free Fire to Free Fire MAX will retain all their cosmetics, items, and weapon skins in the MAX version. However, as the MAX version is the enhanced version of the game, it requires higher processing power, which demands powerful smartphones to run the game smoothly.
