The State of Cloud Gaming Services in India
Explore the current landscape of cloud gaming services in India, highlighting the latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in the Indian cloud gaming market.
In 2019, Jio made ambitious promises with the launch of JioFiber and its Set Top Box, touting a revolutionary gaming experience. The company assured consumers of 4k gaming capabilities accessible through “almost all gaming controllers” and even smartphones as soft controllers. Akash Ambani, now the company’s chairman, demonstrated this by playing FIFA 19 (allegedly with his friend online) during the unveiling, claiming seamless connectivity through Jio’s network. The platform also stated that it would feature games from industry giants like Tencent, Microsoft, Riot Games, Milestone and Gameloft.
Fast forward to 2024, the landscape is starkly different. FIFA titles are conspicuously absent, the catalog of multiplayer games is meager, and Microsoft's partnership with Jio to bring Project xCloud to India has not seen significant development since its initial announcement.
