KIGI’s Vision for Indian Gaming: Insights from an Exclusive Interview with Anuj Sahani
Indian game developers face formidable challenges when building their first studios—securing funding, finding mentorship, and navigating scalable infrastructure often top the list. In an earlier feature, “How to Secure Funding for Your First Game,” we outlined strategies to address these obstacles, emphasizing the value of incubator programs. One such initiative is the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator (KIGI), a program redefining early-stage game development in India.
Launched in 2023, KIGI combines creative and commercial support to help developers turn ambitious concepts into market-ready games. The incubator provides mentorship from seasoned industry veterans, financial assistance of up to $150,000, and tailored insights into market trends and monetization strategies.
In an interview with AFK Gaming, Anuj Sahani, head of the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator and India Publishing Advisor, detailed the program’s strategic vision and role in cultivating India’s growing game development sector. By promoting innovation and integrating culturally resonant themes with global market appeal, the incubator aids indie studios like ReDimension Games and Shura Games in producing polished, market-ready titles.
He also revealed KIGI’s overarching goal: To establish India as a global contender in the gaming industry, aligning with the nation’s aspirations to become a digital and creative leader.
“We developed KIGI to create a support system for aspiring game developers in India, fostering innovation and nurturing local talent,” explains Sahani. “While the Indian gaming industry is growing rapidly, many early-stage developers face challenges such as limited resources and a lack of mentorship or funding, which can restrict their ability to scale ideas into successful projects.”
