Honkai: Star Rail 2.0 4-Star Selector: Who Should You Pick?

Here are our recommended picks from the free 4-Star Selector from Honkai: Star Rail's Penacony update.
Guinaifen, Sampo, Asta and Yukong are the four available characters in the selector.

Honkai: Star Rail's Penacony update (patch 2.0) will give players access to a 4-star Selector which will allow you to pick a free character. This is not the first time that Hoyoverse has given out a free 4-star selector but the developers have changed the pool of characters to choose from. Players can pick Sampo, Guinaifen, Asta or Yukong from the selector and if you don't know who you should be picking, here's a quick breakdown to help you out.

How to Get The 4-Star Selector in Honkai Star Rail 2.0

Players can obtain the selector from the "Hanu's Prison Break" event in patch 2.0. In the event, you escape a prison through the Dreamscape Sales Store by interacting with a dream bubble. Navigate pinball and perspective puzzles in a mirror maze, control a mini Hanu to unlock areas, and use Dreamwalker ability to rescue cellmates to earn rewards during the event. Completing specific objectives will grant players access to the 4-Star Selector.

Honkai: Star Rail 2.0: Best 4-Star to Pick From the Upcoming Selector

There is no easy pick from the four available characters. You should make your decision depending on whether you are missing any of the characters or if you are close to important Eidolons. Here's a quick summary for each of them.

Sampo: If you are not going for Black Swan, and are interested in a damage over time (DoT) team, Sampo is a great pickup. If you do not have even a single copy of the character, you can consider picking him up. His E4 and E6 give him a massive damage spike so if you are close to either Eidolon, you should grab him from the selector.

Asta: Asta gives your entire party a massive Speed (SPD) boost and Attack (ATK) boost using her Ultimate. Her Skill can also deal massive amounts of damage to enemies that are weak to fire. Unfortuantely, you need all 6 of her Eidolons to make her truly shine. She can boost Fire DPS units a lot thanks to a trace that grants the entire party 18% Fire Damage Bonus, which benefits characters like Himeko and Topaz greatly. With Sam expected to be a Fire Destruction character, Asta might see even more usage in future content.

Yukong: Yukong is the least desirable character in the selector because of how Eidolon-reliant she is. If you do not have her E6, using her can be very difficult. While Yukong's buffs are potent, you get very few stacks of the buff and have to tune the Speed of all your characters to avoid your supports or healers/tanks from stealing Yukong's buff. Unless you are close to E6, we do not recommend getting Yukong from the selector unless she's the only character you are missing on this list.

Guinaifen: Guinaifen is the least Eidolon-reliant character on this list. She is a perfectly viable character in DoT teams at E0 and her E1 also gives her a massive power spike by reducing Effect Hit Rate% requirements for DoT teams. She works outside of DoT teams as well thanks to her Firekiss debuff and her E1's resistance shred.

Hopefully our guide helps you pick the right character for your account. Do not hesitate to pick a character that you like whether it be for gameplay reasons or other factors like design, voiceover or story. All of these characters are viable in endgame content and add value to any Star Rail player's account.
