Bethesda's latest RPG, Starfield, is out now, and players are out exploring space. Starfield has proven itself to be a stellar game in many ways, but it's a bit embarrassing that Bethesda's AAA game doesn't allow the player to change their FOV settings on PC.
Surprisingly, there’s not a single option to change player FOV in the long list of Starfield console commands and cheats. If you want to change your FOV in Starfield, be prepared to do it yourself. We’ve prepared a guide to show how you can do it.
How Can I Change FOV in Starfield?
Unlike previous Bethesda games where players could make ingame console commands, changing your FOV in Starfield is a bit different. In order to change your FOV in Starfield, here's what you need to do –
Open Windows Explorer and go to My Documents
Go to My Games > Starfield directory
Right-click an empty space inside the folder and create a new Text Document
Name the file "StarfieldCustoms.in". Be sure there's no ".txt" at the end.
On the first line, type "[Camera]".
Head to the second line and type "fFPWorldFOV=90".
On the third line, write "fTPWorldFOV=90
Replace the 90s above with whatever your desired values are for FOV in first and third-person
Save and exit
Once you've loaded your latest save game, the camera should be placed closer or farther depending on whatever values you had written in the configuration file. Feel free to adjust fFPWorldFOV and fTPWorldFOV values according to your preferences.
If this didn't work for you, then it's probably because StarfieldCustoms was saved as a plain text file. Correct this by saving it as a '.ini' file, not a '.txt' one. You can easily find if this is the case by looking at your Explorer and checking the file's type.
What Starfield FOV Should I Use?
By default, Starfield sets your FOV at 85 for the first person and 70 for the third person.
We recommend changing your Starfield FOV to a number between 95 and 100. However, if you want a wider view of your surroundings, you can set your FOV beyond 100. You can also set different values for the first-person and third-person camera.
That's everything you need to know about changing your FOV in Starfield and doing Bethesda's job for them. An official FOV slider from Bethesda is probably on its way, but this is a great workaround to change your FOV in Starfield.
