Songbird in Phantom Liberty
In the Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Breakdown, the narrative director Igor Sarzyński describes Songbird, along with V and Solomon Reed, as the three most important characters in the game. The Phantom Liberty journey begins with a brief interaction between V and Songbird, kicking off the Dog Eat Dog mission.
Song So Mi, or Songbird, is a mysterious character from Korean descent who sports a fierce appearance with immaculate makeup and slicked back hair. Her hair color is never constant and keeps changing from time to time. She is a talented netrunner for the New United States of America, along with being the right hand of NUSA President Rosalind Myers. This is how she contacts V to help her rescue Myers, stuck in the disorderly district where the Space Force One crash-landed.
There is also a complicated history between Songbird and Reed, as was seen in the Phantom Liberty cinematic trailer. Songbird had betrayed her longtime partner and mentor, Reed, seven years prior to the events of Phantom Liberty. This happened when she left him dying inside a passenger train that was filled with hostile Arasaka troops. She has now been accompanying Myers on her trip, seven years later—that is—before the ship is shot down and V is contacted for help.
Fans can expect an interesting dynamic to follow suit during our protagonist V’s journey, who will closely be working with Songbird. Reed and Songbird’s complicated relationship and history will make for an intricately packed storyline that keeps fans engaged.
