The fiery, yellow-clad Ninja has always been about revenge, resurrected by sorcerer Quan Chi to get revenge on his rival, Bi-Han, aka Sub Zero. He’s one of the most powerful characters in Mortal Kombat. While in the first game, the man behind the mask was Hanzo Hasashi; players have a reason to believe it’s not the case with Mortal Kombat 1. Who is Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 1?
The Mortal Kombat series has several iconic characters, but nothing comes close to Scorpion. Known for his flame powers and harpoon, Scorpion is a vengeful fighter who fights on a plane beyond everyone else. He’s one of the most tragic characters in the game, constantly being betrayed and facing heartache. You can consider him as the series’ secondary protagonist.
Mortal Kombat 1 is bringing back Scorpion, but it’s not without a twist. The reboot changes what we know about Hanzo Hasashi.
Mortal Kombat 1: Is Hanzo Hasashi The Scorpion?
Unfortunately, we won’t see Hanzo Hasashi come back as Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 1. In the new game, Scorpion’s name has been given to Kuai Liang. If you’ve been following previous Mortal Kombat entries, you know that Kuai Liang is the second Sub-Zero, the brother of the original Sub-Zero Bi Han, who was corrupted.
That’s not the end; there are more changes with Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 1. In the new timeline, Bi Han and Kuai Liang are still brothers and members of the Lin Kuei clan. As Kuai Liang is not a vengeful spirit, he wasn’t killed or resurrected by Quan Chi like Hanzo Hasashi’s Scorpion. Unlike previous games, Scorpion is not hell-bent on ending Sub Zero’s life, at least for now.
Mortal Kombat 1: Where is Hanzo Hasashi?
Hanzo Hasashi cannot be directly seen in Mortal Kombat 1, but he’s still out there in this game’s universe. If you complete each character’s endings by completing Towers as each character and unlock Smoke’s ending, you will learn details about Hanzo’s existence.

After completing the game, Smoke and Scorpion start a new clan and name it Shirari Ryu. At first, they struggle to find members to train until Smoke is attacked by a homeless boy who tries to mug him one night.
Smoke takes that boy to Kuai Liang, making him Shirari Ryu’s first new member. For sure, the boy in question is Hanzo Hasashi.
