This Ambitious Mod Melds the World of Game of Thrones and Skyrim
There's no doubt that Skyrim is a pretty flawless game these days. It has been improved upon and released a dozen times. Since its launch in 2011, PC players can enjoy a wide range of mods created for the game, adding new environments, quests, and much more.
However, one mod has caught everyone's attention: Skyros. It's one of the most ambitious mod projects, aiming to meld the world of Game of Thrones and Bethesda's RPG.
Game of Thrones Mod Turns The World of Skyrim Into Westeros
It's been more than a decade since the launch of Skyrim, and the title has garnered a large modding community. It's one of those communities which is still active and lively to this day. Skyrim's frosty environment has inspired many modders to develop a mod on HBO's blockbuster series Game of Thrones, inspired by George R.R. Martin's novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
Skyros is the ultimate Game of Thrones mod for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as it takes place in a geographically accurate game-sized map of Westeros. The mod brings all the prominent characters and locations from the series, including recreating the hot southern lands of Drone right up to the frosty wastes found beyond The Wall.
It's an ambitious project, meaning there's much work. Previously, the development team revealed that they've made a 'plethora' of new hires in order to get the mod out of the development stage. It's nearly as ambitious as the novels and TV shows on which it's based
The mod's story is supposed to begin at the starting of Game of Thrones when the playable character arrives in Winterfell as part of King Robert's entourage. From there, players must make decisions that will shape the world around them and ultimately decide who sits on the Iron Throne when the war ends.
As of now, Skyros doesn't have any firm release date. If you're interested in learning more about the project's developmental work, the team invites anyone to their official Discord channel. The developers are accepting scripting, writing, level design, and 3D modeling positions.
