These optional encounters found in the Monolith of Fate reward players with Experimental items which can even be of Exalted level. Let’s take a look at what Rune Prisons are in Last Epoch, how to find them, and the valuable rewards they offer.
What Are Rune Prisons in Lost Epoch?
Rune Prisons are optional boss fights scattered throughout Last Epoch's world. These prisons appear at random in each Monolith of Fate's Webs of Echoes timeline. These prisons contain Exiled Mages, powerful enemies with a random set of abilities. When you click on a Rune Prison, the Exiled Mage inside will be free and become immediately hostile. Defeating these mages will give you Experimental Items and, at higher levels, a Rune of Research.
Opening A Rune Prison
Players must explore the Monolith of Fate's Webs of Echoes to locate a Rune Prison. These randomly generated places have portals that connect to various timelines, each with its own set of challenges and rewards. As players proceed through the campaign, they will eventually come upon a doorway on the Eastern side of The End of Time, which will allow them to enter the Monolith of Fate.
Once inside the Monolith, players can search the timelines and echoes for Rune Prisons. When a prison is discovered, simply approach it and click on it to begin the boss battle. The Exiled Mage within is tough and has random abilities, so be wary.
Rune Prison Rewards
Players that successfully beat an Exiled Mage will be rewarded with an Experimental Item. These Exalted Level Items, which include boots, belts, and gloves, are guaranteed to roll with an experimental affix. These experimental affixes are distinct modifiers that cannot be found or made elsewhere in Last Epoch, making them highly sought after by players.
Furthermore, Exiled Mages above Level 70 can drop a Rune of Research. This crafting material enables players to seal experimental affixes onto experimental things, expanding the options for making powerful gear. There is also a chance to get a Glyph of Insight, which is a strong crafting item that allows players to upgrade normal affixes to experimental ones.
