Pokimane Reveals The Reason Why She Left Twitch After a Decade on The Platform
Imane “Pokimane” Anys has been streaming for over a decade and is still the most-followed female streamer. However, the streamer caused quite a stir in the streaming community on 30th January 2024 after announcing that’s leaving Twitch. Fans speculated that the streamer might have taken a lucrative deal with another. A day later, Pokimane announced her move to YouTube and explained why she had decided to quit Twitch.
Pokimane Reveals Why She Left Twitch
In a brand-new episode of her podcast “Don’t Tell Anyone with Pokimane,” the streamer revealed why she’s leaving the Amazon-owned platform, and her 9.3 million followers.
According to Pokimane, the “manosphere, red pill b*llshit” that’s coming from some of the most popular and well-established creators on Twitch in the last couple of years has been frustrating for her. Throughout the hour-long episode, Pokimane says more on the topic and reveals several other reasons for her departure from Twitch, coming at the end of an exclusivity contract she had with the Amazon-owned streaming platform.
One of the reasons Pokimane quit Twitch was for herself and her long-term career growth. She explained that she’s going to keep gaming, but she is a separate entity from Twitch. The streamer wants to be “as free as a bird.”
She intends to experiment with other streaming platforms, such as YouTube and states that Twitch’s management is part of the reason why she wants to jump ships. Pokimane heavily criticized Twitch’s recent rule changes, management of partnerships, moderation, and marketing.
“I personally am done with Twitch’s messy behavior in the sense that I’m not done with Twitch, but I’m done with, like, being emotionally invested in the changes that this company is doing,” she said.
Pokimane also commented on issues with Twitch's hotly debated ban process, explaining that even when something is wrong, Twitch takes a lot of time to do anything about it. In the end, Pokimane revealed she’s decided not to re-sign with Twitch, also stating that she doesn’t want to sign “exclusively with any streaming platform” for the foreseeable future.
Pokimane will have her first-ever YouTube stream on 1 February 2024 at 12 p.m. PT. She has also posted an image featuring both Twitch and YouTube Streamers on her X handle. According to the post, these individuals will take part in a showdown event on 1st February 2024 at 1 p.m. PT.
