Blizzard Entertainment revealed the Overwatch 2: Invasion update at the 2023 Xbox Showcase on 11th June 2023
The update will feature a new Game mode, three new Story Missions, the new Hero Mastery feature and more.
Blizzard also announced the Reveal Livestream for the update which will be on 21st June 2023.

The Xbox Showcase 2023 took place over the weekend on 11th June and featured multiple showcases and reveals for multiple upcoming titles and updates, including some fan favorites like Star Wars Outlaws, Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty Expansion, and Blizzard Entertainment’s announcement for Overwatch 2: Invasion, which will be the upcoming update in a new season for the First Person PvP shooter.

Calling it the “biggest content drop yet” Blizzard announced the Invasion update for Overwatch 2 which will feature new Story Missions, a new co-op mission on the King’s Row map, a new PvP (player versus player) game mode called Flashpoint, a new Hero Mastery feature and also teased the release of the next Hero which will be a Support character. Blizzard has also announced that there will be a Reveal Livestream for the Invasion update on 21st June 2023.

Overwatch 2: Invasion Release Date and Bundles

The Overwatch 2: Invasion update and the new season will be going live on 10th August 2023. Blizzard announced that the Reveal Livestream on 21st June will include gameplay for the update.

In its blog post for the Invasion update, Blizzard also announced two different bundles that will be released alongside the update.


The Overwatch 2: Invasion bundle which is priced at $15 USD will include

  • Permanent access to the Overwatch 2: Invasion Story Missions

  • 1,000 Overwatch Coins (equal to the Premium Battle Pass, $10 USD value)

  • A brand-new Sojourn Legendary skin ($19 USD value)

  • Permanent access to Sojourn as a playable hero for new players: unlocked upon completing Story Mission challenges.

The more premium Overwatch 2: Ultimate Invasion Bundle will cost $40 USD and will include all of the above as well as:

  • The Null Sector Premium Battle Pass with 20 Battle Pass skips ($30 USD value)

  • An additional 1,000 Overwatch Coins, for a total of 2,000 Overwatch Coins ($20 USD value)

  • Two additional Legendary skins for Cassidy and Kiriko ($38 USD value).

Overwatch 2: Invasion Story Missions

The Invasion update will include three new Story Missions that take place in Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg which are featured to have massive maps and an in-depth storyline. Players will face the forces of the Null Sector which will include new enemies such as the Artillery and the Stalkers.

Overwatch 2: Invasion Flashpoint Game mode 

Blizzard will also be introducing a new game mode called Flashpoint with the Invasion update which will be available in both Quick Play and Competitive modes and will feature the two biggest PvP maps yet in Overwatch 2. 

The game mode will feature capture-the-flag-like gameplay with teams fighting for control over key points on the map called “flashpoints” and attain victory when one team has captured three of such flashpoints in quick succession. We can expect to see more details and gameplay of this game mode in the Reveal Livestream on 21st June.

Overwatch 2: Invasion Other Features

In addition to the Story Missions and the new game mode, players will be able to play a new co-op mission on the King’s Row map where they will be required to guide a t1 push bot on a mission. 

The update will also feature the all-new Hero Mastery mode which serves as a Hero-specific training ground with different courses that players will be able to tackle and train their skills with. There will also be leaderboards for the courses for the extra-skilled and competitive players looking for a challenge.

From what Blizzard has shown so far, the Overwatch 2: Invasion update has left fans hyped and eager to jump into all the new content and it has definitely fulfilled its promise of being a big content drop at first look. Players will be looking forward to tuning in to the Reveal Livestream on 21st June to find out even more about the Invasion update.
