The highly anticipated revamp of the Mortal Kombat series is finally making its way to storefronts this month. This twelfth main installment aims to be a reboot of the series, featuring a re-imagined MK universe that has been created by the Fire God Liu Kang. Considering the recent release of Street Fighter 6, many fighting game fans are wondering about Mortal Kombat 1 and the host of changes it brings to the table. Let's take a look.
Mortal Kombat 1 Release Date
Mortal Kombat 1 is officially hitting the shelves on 14th September for players who purchased the Premium and the Kollector’s edition of the game. Players who bought the standard edition can access the game on 19th September. The game is available on various platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows.
Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Features and Invasion Mode
This newly imagined version of Mortal Kombat was developed by NetherRealm Studios. Apart from these reconceptualized characters, it will also feature a brand-new fighting system, fatalities, and game modes. There is also the introduction of Kameo fighters who assist you in the middle of a game, either by using a special attack, throw, or breaker. The game currently promises over 22 characters and 20 Kameo fighters. We can be sure that more characters will be added to the game considering the fact that MK 11 had 25 fighters in total.
The game also offers a solid campaign mode for those of you who would like to explore more about the MK lore. Furthermore, there is also the addition of an invasion mode, which offers top-down gameplay with a board-game-styled map, taking players around iconic locations in the MK universe. You will be able to take control of a party of characters and embark on adventures while also leveling them up and equipping them with new resources.
This mode allows players to earn in-game currency, concept art, and cosmetics while also offering other unlockables. Invasion mode seems like it could take over the Kyrpt which also had a similar method of rewarding players with in-game items as they progress through the game.
NetherRealm has also confirmed that the new mode will continue to receive several updates and more mini-games as the game nears its official launch.
