The Sims, one of the biggest video game franchises in the world, is finally making its way to the big screen.
It's been reported that The Sims movie is in the works, with Margot Robbie and Kate Herron involved.

It's a known fact that nothing beats The Sims when it comes to life simulation games. What initially started as a simple game in the 2000s has evolved into multiple titles, expansion packs, spin-offs, and so on in the following decades. However, the iconic series is expanding further and getting a full-fledged live-action movie. As shared in a newsletter by Hollywood reporter Jeff Sneider, Australian actress Margot Robbie is all set to direct the film, with Kate Herron as director.

The Sims Movie is Coming With Margot Robbie and Kate Herron

Margot Robbie, known for bringing Barbie into cinemas, is now preparing to venture into new territories with her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. The Australian actress is all set to turn The Sims into a film. She'll be joined by Kate Herron, known for her work in Marvel Studio’s Loki Series.

This isn’t the first Margot Robbie is producing a film. Although she's known for her impressive acting skills, she's worked on several projects, including Netflix's series Maid. However, whether she'll also be involved in front of the cameras is still unknown.

While the details regarding the story are yet to be revealed, it's expected that The Sims film will be a unique mix of Barbie and Free Guy, the action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds. That’s not all, the film can pick up from different families and lores in The Sims franchise, so there will be no shortage of ideas to use. The upcoming movie is still in early development stages, and doesn’t have a cast attached to it yet.

It's not the first time we've seen an attempt to make The Sims film. Previously, Fox intended to adapt the franchise into a live-action movie in 2007. However, despite the initial excitement, the project faced several problems and ultimately couldn't gain traction. The movie was canceled in 2019 after the Disney-Fox merger.

The incredible success of video game movies such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Lego Movie have paved the path for The Sims to take the spotlight with its cinematic version. With a massive fanbase for the franchise and a unique storytelling opportunity, the timing is right to turn The Sims into a feature film.
