It's known that Helldivers 2 has been a massive hit for Sony so far, with the game topping sales charts on both PlayStation (PS5) and PC. The game's simultaneous launch on Steam has contributed to its success. After all, titles like Helldivers 2 thrive the best when they're available to play on multiple platforms. However, many wonder if Sony will ever bring Helldivers to Xbox systems. Normally, the chances of a PS5 title coming to Xbox are very low. However, new reports suggest that there might be hope for some Xbox fans who want to play Arrowhead's hit shooter on their systems.
Helldivers 2 in Preliminary Talks to Release on Microsoft’s Xbox
The rumor comes from the latest episode of the XboxEra podcast, where reliable insider Nick "Shpeshal Nick" Baker claimed that he has heard rumors that preliminary talks have been happening to bring Arrowhead's Helldivers 2 to Xbox Series S/X. While PlayStation's old CEO, Jim Ryan, didn't have strong intentions to work with Microsoft's Xbox, he officially left the company on 1st April 2024. According to Baker, the new interim CEO, Hiroki Totoki, is more open to trying out new things with rival platforms.
However, taking these rumors with a grain of salt is crucial. During the podcast, Baker was quite careful with his wording and noted several times that he had just heard things, and his sources suggest that the talks are still "very early." There's still no guarantee that we'll end up seeing this port, so fans shouldn't raise their expectations in case things don't work out in the end.
In the last couple of months, we've seen an eagerness from Xbox to bring its exclusives to other platforms. First-party games such as Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment have finally made their way to PS5. However, Sony is still not keen on doing the same for its exclusive titles. Although they've been porting their games to PC, MLB The Snow is currently the only example of a Sony-exclusive game that has been released on Nintendo Switch and Xbox.
Will PlayStation Actually Release Helldivers 2 on Xbox?
There's no doubt that the potential release of a PlayStation-published title like Helldivers 2 on Xbox would be a huge turning point for Sony and the industry as a whole. If any "early talks" have been happening between both companies, it wouldn't be a surprise on Microsoft's part. In February, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that he's not sure who in the industry benefits from Helldivers 2 not being on Xbox. Recently, much talk has been about the importance of exclusive titles helping manufacturers sell more consoles. Still, an Xbox release for Helldivers would surely help find the game a much bigger audience than it already has. The port release would allow the game to maintain a massive player base, and that's what every online game needs to thrive in this generation.
