Baldur’s Gate 3 is officially getting its full release on 3rd August and a PlayStation version will follow soon after.
Baldur’s Gate 3 does not have native controller support for PC but it is possible to work around the issue.

The third iteration of Baldur’s Gate will officially hit the shelves by the 3rd August for PC, and macOS, and the PlayStation version will drop by the end of August. Currently, the game is still available for purchase on Steam as an early access title. Larian Studios aims to iron out all sorts of bugs and glitches and offer players a refined and polished Baldur’s Gate experience. The game will come with native controller support for PlayStation 5 and most likely for PC as well, although there is no word out yet about the Xbox version of the game.

Can You Play Baldur’s Gate on a Controller?

Long story short, Baldur’s Gate 3 is not currently available with native controller support as it is still in its early access. However, with the full launch of the game on 3rd August for PC and a PlayStation release set to follow soon after, it is likely that the game will support controllers. Larian Studios also worked on Divinity: Original Sin 2 which was available on Xbox, PlayStation and PC with native controller support, so it should be no surprise that they would bring it over to Baldur’s Gate 3 as well.

However, that does not mean controllers won't currently work with Baldur’s Gate 3. You can still configure the game to run on any controller using Steam’s controller settings. Here’s how to do it:

steam controller settings
  1. Open your Steam Client and click on Steam on the top left corner of your screen

  2. Go to settings and navigate to controller

  3. Under external gamepad settings you will see all the controller configuration options

  4. Check the box that applies to your specific controller

  5. Close the settings and right click on Baldur’s Gate 3 from your Steam Library

  6. Head to properties and click on controller

  7. Click on the drop down menu and enable steam input

Under external gamepad settings, you will also find the option called calibration and advanced settings. This will allow you to calibrate your controller’s deadzone as well. Do note that since Baldur’s Gate 3 is still in early access at the time of writing, there will be a few bugs and glitches while using the controller to navigate through its complex menus.
