Highlights
Clearing your bounty in Starfield is a manageable task, provided you have the necessary credits.
Whether you've unintentionally crossed the line or fully embraced a life of crime, this guide will show you how to remove your bounty in Starfield, ensuring you can return to the cosmos with a clean slate.

In the vast expanse of Starfield, you have the power to shape your destiny, whether as a noble hero or a rogue scoundrel. However, every action has consequences, and stepping outside the boundaries of the law can result in you acquiring a dreaded bounty on your head. In this guide, we'll unravel the mechanics of removing bounties in Starfield, ensuring you can roam the cosmos without the fear of incarceration.

Understanding Bounties in Starfield

In Starfield, certain actions, such as killing citizens, trespassing, pickpocketing, and hacking, can land you in hot water with the factions that control the Settled Systems. When you commit these crimes, a bounty is placed on your head, and faction security will be hot on your trail.

Checking Your Bounty

To keep tabs on your notoriety, you can access the Starmap and select a Solar System. In the top-right corner, you'll find the main faction in the system and the bounty amount right below it. If there's no bounty listed, you're in the clear. Alternatively, you can use a Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosk to check your bounty status.

Removing Your Bounty

There are three primary methods to clear your bounty in Starfield, each with its own implications:

1. Faction Security:

  • If you're apprehended by faction security, you can choose to pay your bounty on the spot. This option allows you to continue your adventures but comes at the cost of surrendering any stolen goods.

  • Note: Faction security can also arrest you, which may lead to jail time, fines, or worse if you resist arrest.

2. Jail Time:

  • Opting for jail time will clear your bounty, but you'll suffer a significant XP loss, and any stolen goods will be confiscated.

  • While in jail, you can attempt to recover your stolen items from a storage box, but be prepared to tackle an expert lock.

3. Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosk:

  • The most convenient method is using a Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosk found in major cities across the galaxy.

  • This option enables you to pay your bounty without dire consequences. You retain your stolen items, and no XP loss occurs.

  • Keep in mind that a small usage fee applies.

  • You cannot use this kiosk if you're in the same airspace as the faction pursuing you.

Locations of Bounty Clearance Kiosks:

  • Astral Lounge, Neon (Volii Alpha)

  • The Broken Spear, Cydonia

  • Viewpoint, New Atlantis

A Word of Caution: You cannot clear a bounty on a planet controlled by the faction that wants you. For example, if you're wanted in Freestar Collective space, head to a United Colonies-controlled planet to resolve your bounty.
