For PC gamers, the absence of certain titles from their platform of choice can be a source of frustration. Among the notable omissions, one title stands out - Red Dead Redemption, the open-world masterpiece from Rockstar Games. As the kings of expansive game worlds, Rockstar's decision not to release this beloved game on PC has left many keyboard and mouse warriors disappointed. However, a workaround solution has emerged that allows PC owners to experience the Wild West adventure, though with a twist.

The requirements and steps for playing Red Dead Redemption on PC

To play Red Dead Redemption on your PC, you'll need two essential components: the Windows 10 operating system and an Xbox One console. That's right, the unexpected hardware in this equation is an Xbox One. By leveraging the Backwards Compatibility program, PC gamers can gain access to the Red Dead Redemption experience.

The Process:

If you have an Xbox One, you can purchase Red Dead Redemption through the Backwards Compatibility program. Alternatively, if you still have your Xbox 360 copy of the game, you can insert the disc into your Xbox One and play it for free. It's important to note that even if you have the physical disc, you'll need to download the full game, which weighs in at around 7.5GB. Additionally, the disc must remain in the drive while you play.

The Xbox App Bridge:

The Xbox app, a built-in feature of Windows 10, is the key to unlocking this streaming experience. Linking your Xbox Live account on both your PC and Xbox One that has Red Dead Redemption installed is the first step. Once linked, you'll be able to stream the game to your PC.

Controller Compatibility

To play the game, you'll need a compatible controller connected to your PC. This could be a preferred controller you already use, an old wired Xbox 360 controller, or an Xbox One controller connected via a micro-USB cable. For wireless gameplay, consider investing in the Xbox Wireless Adapter for PC, which enables seamless connections.

Streaming Setup:

In the Xbox app on your Windows 10 device, navigate to the 'Game streaming' section and select 'Xbox One connection.' The app will search your local network for an Xbox One with the same account credentials as on your PC. If the console isn't found automatically, you can manually input its IP address. However, if both devices are on the same network, manual input shouldn't be necessary.

Network Quality and Streaming:

For optimal streaming quality, it's recommended to use wired connections for both your Xbox One and PC. Wired connections provide higher-quality streaming and a gameplay experience that closely mirrors what you'd have on the console. Wireless streaming might require compromising on streaming quality.

Unfortunately, Rockstar Games has shown little interest in releasing Red Dead Redemption on PC natively. Therefore, this streaming method might be the only viable way to play the game on PC.
