A lot of players are unable to save their game in Baldur’s Gate 3 due to a bug. A hotfix should be deployed very soon but developer Larian Studios has offered a workaround that you can follow to save the game and not lose progress as you travel through Faerun. If the Save Game option is not working in Baldur’s Gate 3 for you whether using the Quick Save option or via manual saves, here’s what you need to do.
How to fix Save Game not working in Baldur’s Gate 3
1. Turn off the cloud sync to Baldur's Gate 3
2. Remove the folder "C:\Users\myUser\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3"
3. Start the game and do not enable the cloud sync
Users can globally disable Cloud synchronization in the Steam Settings under Cloud by unchecking "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for applications which support it." Users can also disable the Cloud synchronization on a per-game basis in each game's properties.
Check for antivirus issues
If this does not resolve the Save Game not working issue in Baldur’s Gate 3 for you, here’s what you should do:
BitDefender can sometimes block the game from being able to create files and folders, which has caused errors when loading. In those cases, including both the game executables and Larian Studios local AppData folder in BitDefender's trusted app and directory sections would fix the problem.
Windows Defender may also cause issues in some cases:
Open the Start Menu
Head to Settings > Updates and Security
Open Windows Security and head to Virus and Threat Protection
In the new menu, click on Add or Remove Exclusions
Add Baldur’s Gate 3
Avast and AVG may also cause various save issues by blocking the game's access to the save files.

Check for corrupt save files
Try browsing to the 'C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\LevelCache' folder and delete the contents. A corrupt file there can cause problems when saving or loading.
The easiest way to get there would be to copy the line below into the location bar in Explorer and hit Enter.
%LocalAppData%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\LevelCache
Repair Game Files
In the Steam library, right-click on the game and select Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and then click on the 'Verify Integrity of Game Files...' button.
With the GOG version, in the (optional) Galaxy client, select the game, then the settings icon at the top right (beside the Play button) and under Manage Installation select 'Verify / Repair'.
Try exiting out of the Steam client, or Galaxy for the GOG version, and starting the game directly from the '..\SteamApps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin' folder, by right-clicking the executable (bg3.exe for Vulkan, or bg3_dx11.exe) and running as administrator.
If applicable, disable Steam cloud support either globally (in the client click on the Steam menu and select Settings, and then Cloud) or just for this game (in the library right click BG3 and select Properties, then switch to the General tab and check the Steam Cloud section).
Hopefully, the above mentioned solutions can fix the save game issue in Baldur’s Gate 3.
