The Magic Mirror is a new item that was added to Baldur's Gate 3 in Patch 3. One of the complaints that the playerbase had at launch was the lack of customization options after starting the campaign and the Magic Mirror is meant to address it. You can use the mirror to change your appearance but there are some limitations that you need to be aware of. If you are wondering how to find and use the Magic Mirror in Baldur's Gate 3, here's what you need to know.
How to get the Magic Mirror
You can get the Magic Mirror by just heading to your campsite. The layout of your camp changes depending on which area of the map you are in so you might need to look around a little but. For example, in Act One, the Magic Mirror is located inside a building while it can be located on walls and other structures in Act Two and Three.
How to use the Magic Mirror in Baldur’s Gate Three
While there are some customization options in Baldur’s Gate 3’s new Magic Mirror. You cannot change everything about your appearance using them. Here are the elements of your character that can be customized:
Identity
Voice
Face
Body Art
Eye Colour
Makeup
Hair Style and Colour
There is also a randomize option if you want to let Larian Studios take the wheel and come up with bizarre or cool combinations that you might like. The things that you cannot change about your appearance are your race/subrace and body type.
The following characters are barred from changing their appearance:
Shadowheart
Gale
Astarion
Wyll
Laezel
Karlach
Minthara
Halsin
Minsc and Boo
Jaheira
The recent patch 3 update stated that Origin characters cannot change their appearance. While Halsin, Minsc and Jaheira do not count as Origin characters, they are still companions who have prior backstory and you will not be able to edit their appearance.
The Dark Urge is an Origin character but is customizable, so if you are going for an evil or redemption playthrough, you are still in luck. Do note that the Magic Mirror is only meant to be used for changing your appearance. If you want to respec your character, you need to talk to Withers, who is a lich (skeleton-like being) in your camp. If you missed your encounter with him early in Act One, he will still make an appearance at your camp eventually and is you go-to guy for changing classes.
