Chargers are armored creatures that you encounter predominantly in the ‘Challenging’ difficulty in Helldivers 2.
The Railgun, Flamethrower, Expendable Antitank, and Recoilless Rifle are the most effective weapons to take down these deadly armored crawlers.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 offers players an immersive third-person shooter experience, tasking them with traversing through hostile galaxies and hunting down deadly alien foes alongside their comrades. While most alien threats are manageable during co-op, the game does contain a few creatures that present a significant challenge to take them down.

One notable example is the Chargers, known for their heavily armored outer shell and their charging stride, capable of dealing devastating damage to entire groups of players. Although taking down these beasts might sound intimidating at first, there are effective strategies you can implement to kill them quite efficiently. Here’s what you need to know.

How to Efficiently Defeat the Chargers in Helldivers 2?

The Chargers are predominantly located in the yellow zones of the Galactic War Map. You will encounter these deadly creatures when you traverse the planets in these regions, provided you are in Medium difficulty or higher. However, playing in the ‘Challenging’ difficulty is when you will find an abundance of these armored crawlers, demanding the use of effective strategies to combat them.

Thankfully, Helldivers 2 boasts a colossal list of weapons and gear you can use to effectively tackle such menacing creatures. If you are below level 10, the most effective weapon to take out the Charger is the Expendable Antitank, which is unlocked at level 3. This weapon is capable of dishing out massive damage on this armored foe, particularly when aimed at the Charger’s legs, which is its weakest spot. One well-placed shot is sufficient to rip off its legs, allowing for further damage using your small gun to eliminate it. You can also use the Recoilless Rifle which unlocks at level 5, to do the same.

Once you reach level 10, you will unlock the Flamethrower which is capable of taking down these chargers in just a few seconds. However, this requires the best of your movement skills, as you need to be in close range of the Charger and evade any oncoming strides from it. You will have to evade its charging attacks twice and continually fire the Flamethrower until it goes down. Although the whole process takes less than a minute if done correctly, you need to time your dodges correctly, as there is no room for error.

If you are level 20 and above, it is way simpler to get rid of these Armored foes. All you need to do is to use the Railgun and fire two shots at the Charger’s front legs and then finish them off with Small Arms. While most players will aim at its weak spot on its back, the legs seem to take much more damage in comparison, allowing you to quickly take them out.

You need not switch to the Railgun’s unsafe mode and risk blowing yourself up, considering that both safe and unsafe modes require you to fire two shots to rip the armor off the Charger’s legs.

You can also use the Rover Strategem, a flying drone that unlocks at level 10, in tandem with the Railgun. This will help you take care of smaller armored aliens while you focus solely on the Charger. Implementing all of the aforementioned strategies is undoubtedly the most straightforward approach you can use to defeat this armored crawler in Helldivers 2.
