There’s no doubt that Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world, with millions of players jumping into the Battle Royale action. Despite the game’s massive player base, fans are unhappy and wondering why Epic Games allows A.I. bots in matches, mainly because they can ruin games for everyone else.
Players Complain About A.I Bots in Fortnite Matches
On the game’s official subreddit, player eL_graves voiced their frustration with having to play with A.I. bots who don’t put up a fight.
The player showcased a short clip of them easily annihilating an A.I. bot by barely even trying. Despite being stacked full of loot in the final circle, all the player had to do was launch a targeted missile from their Anvil Rocket Launcher and the A.I bot walked straight into it, giving them the win.
According to players, A.I. bots would’ve made sense in the game if it was an unpopular title. However, Fortnite is one of the most played battle royales, and the AI bots are completely unnecessary.
Various other players echoed their opinion: “Every bot encounter is just a momentum and mood killer. I mean, there is just nothing at all even remotely dopamine giving about a game like this. Do people still care about wins so much that this is what Epic have resorted to?”
Another player stated, “I miss fighting more than 4 guys for a named location. I miss there were actual hot drops where a significant portion of the lobby would be. I miss when there were more than only 30 people left after the first circle because 3 quarters of the server is bots. I miss when killing an opponent actually gave loot instead of the green ar and 16 ammo that every bot is given”
Why Are A.I Bots a Problem For Fortnite?
Epic introduced bots into Fortnite with Chapter 2. These A.I. players fill out empty matches. While it was initially thought that the bots would be present in the beginner games, it doesn’t seem to be the case. The bots end up in all sorts of high-level games, and sometimes, they end up derailing things for players.

The crux of the issue is that these bots have awful AI. You can easily recognize a bot because of its behavior. They operate in specific patterns, and rarely defend themselves or even notice players next to them. Put simply, they’re designed to give new players some positive reinforcement rather than compete in a game. However, bots often end up littering competitive games, which complicates things. They are a problem for players trying to practice, and they showcase a deeper problem in Fortnite’s matchmaking. Fortnite’s A.I bots shouldn’t have a place in higher-tier games as they’re quite boring to go against and too simplistic to work in these situations.
How to Identify A.I Bots in Fortnite?
It’s quite easy to identify bots in Fortnite by a series of typical behaviors that set them apart from the regular human players.
Bots usually have randomly generated usernames, while others have two distinctive words followed by a number (e.g., MajorTiger5). Bots will also frequently attack players at a long distance and will never be seen interacting with Vending Machines, building with Brick or Metal, or using special Weapons. You can spot Bots jumping around aimlessly, wandering in circles, and not crouching to hide their footsteps. Most importantly, bots don’t use any seasonal cosmetics, have no Wraps on their Weapons, and can only do emotes on Spawn Island.
