Fortnite is returning to iOS devices later this year thanks to a favorable ruling by the European Union in Epic Games' favor.
Epic Games is capitalizing on this opportunity by introducing the Epic Games Store for iOS.

Fortnite is set to make a triumphant return to iOS devices, marking the end of a prolonged absence. Epic Games, armed with a freshly acquired Apple Developer Account, is gearing up to re-enter the iPhone market. The game was absent from iOS devices due to Epic Games' legal dispute with Apple. The European Union has ruled in favor of allowing alternate storefronts on iPhones, signaling a major shift in the iOS ecosystem.

Fortnite Will Return to iOS in 2024

This ruling by the European Union means that Fortnite can rejoin the iOS lineup without being obligated to pay a percentage of microtransaction revenue to Apple.

Epic Games is capitalizing on this opportunity by introducing the Epic Games Store for iOS, providing a new avenue for distributing Fortnite and other mobile games outside the confines of the iOS App Store.

While the ruling by the European Union prevents Apple from claiming a share of Epic's microtransaction earnings, developers are still obliged to pay Apple for hosting the game on iOS.

The Epic Games Store currently boasts 75 million users on PC and Android and continues to be one of the most popular games on the planet. Fortnite has evolved over the years and it no longer just a battle royale title. The release of Fortnite LEGO and Fortnite Festival, the game is catering to a much larger demographic.

Disney has also acquired a $1.5 Billion USD stake in Epic Games which hints at long-term collaboration between both parties. We can expect a joint metaverse to be created using Disney's intellectual properties and Epic Games may create new experiences both within Fortnite as well as standalone titles.

If you are a Fortnite fan, the game's return to iOS could not have come at a better time. It is likely that whatever Epic Games is cooking for its fans in partnership with Disney will also arrive on iOS.
