After a four-year legal battle with Apple, new changes in the EU now bring Fortnite back to iOS devices.
The UEFN maps, Fortnite Festival, Rocket Racing, Lego Fortnite, and other current in-game events will soon make their way to iPhones and later to iPads.

Fortnite Battle Royale was first released to Apple’s iOS devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and even the iPod touch in 2018. While it reached undeniable success and acclaim from mobile gamers on iOS, it all came to a halt when the Epic Games and Apple lawsuit began in 2020, where Apple removed the game from its App Store. Although it has been four years since the dispute began, a resolution has come to fruition, stating that Fortnite would return to the App Store for iPhones and iPads in 2024.

Fortnite iOS Is Expected to Be Available on iPads by the End of 2024

Epic Games officially announced on 26th January that Fortnite will be available on iOS again, much to the joy of many fans with iPhones. While iOS users could still play the game using cloud gaming services like Amazon Luna, Geforce Now, or Xbox Cloud, this change means players can natively run the game on their devices without worrying too much about input latency, or other connectivity issues associated with cloud gaming.

As a follow-up to that post, Fortnite gave us an update yesterday that the EU has now announced that this change includes users playing the game on iPads as well. However, this does not mean Fortnite will go live again on Apple’s App Store.

As mentioned by the European Union, the EU version of the App Store will introduce a new sideloading feature that will allow game developers and publishing studios to directly share their apps and games with their users without having to go through the approval process through Apple.

For those unaware, Fortnite was banned from the App Store while Chapter 2 Season 3 was its current season. This means the game received no future updates and was pretty much “stuck’ on the same season since then. However, with this change, the game will finally receive updates in the EU, bringing it to current standards and metas that have been introduced with Chapter 5 Season 2.

While iPhones will receive this update relatively soon, iPad devices will get it sometime later, hopefully by the end of 2024. This could also mean that the UEFN maps, Fortnite Festival, Rocket Racing, Lego Fortnite, and other current in-game events will all make their way to iOS devices which has certainly overjoyed mobile gamers.
