Baldur's Gate 3 is a story-driven, party-based RPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. With so many different classes, deciding which is best for you might take time. Classes for Baldur's Gate 3 are styles of play for each character of the game. Each class also has several Subclasses that players can select after gaining sufficient XP.
Whether you enjoy martial arts, spellcasting, or something in between, there's a class in Baldur's Gate 3 for you. Let's look at all of the best classes in Baldur's Gate 3 and help you decide which one is ideal for your play style.
All The Classes in Baldur’s Gate 3
The latest edition of the world's most popular tabletop roleplaying game is Dungeons & Dragons 5E. Players create characters and embark on quests led by a dungeon master (DM), who controls non-player characters (NPCs), monsters, and global events.
Baldur's Gate 3 has 12 primary classes and 46 subclasses. These can be improved by spending points on the game's abilities (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma).
Here’s a list of all Baldur’s Gate 3 classes and subclasses:
Cleric – Knowledge, Life, Light, Nature, Tempest, Trickery, War
Clerics will be able to choose their god at character creation, and that choice will affect their subclass. The Cleric class is special since they can do this right away compared to other classes that have you progress to a certain point.
Fighter – Battle Master, Eldritch Knight, Champion
The fighter class is similar to the barbarian in that they have a preference for melee combat. They are however a very versatile class in regards to weapons as they are proficient in wielding almost all weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3. Their versatility and ease of use make them a great choice for new players.
Ranger – Hunter, Beast Master, Gloom Stalker
The ranger class is the Robin Hood of the game, swift and nimble with a proficiency in tracking and reconnaissance, they also possess a slight talent for magic although it isn’t anything significant. Considered by players to be one of the weaker classes due to their Jack of all trades, master of none status.
Rogue – Arcane Trickster, Assassin, Thief
Rogues are the assassin class of BG3, experts in deception and masters of stealth. And while they may not be the best class in terms of stats or damage, if you like to play the assassin class in any game, then this is the class for you.
Warlock – Archfey, The Fiend, The Great One
Much like the Cleric, the Warlock class also gets to pick a sub-class immediately which gives them some uniqueness. They are also the ranged counterparts of rogues in respect to being “mid” at everything and not excelling in any particular aspect.
Wizard – Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Necromancy, Illusion, Transmutation
While also being damage dealers like the Sorcerer class, Wizards have a bigger variety of spells catered to utility and as such are much more versatile in their use cases. Their weapon and item choices are also quite limited.
Druid – Land, Moon, Spore
The druid is a highly versatile class capable of transformation and even some spellcasting, including healing in their grasp. As the name suggests, the druid’s powers are derived from nature which is why they can transform into wild creatures.
Barbarian – Berserker, Wildheart, Wild Magic
The Barbarian has an unquenchable wrath, which is powered by keen intuition and physical strength. They embody the brute-force, melee berserker archetype that you may be familiar with from previous games, like Diablo 4's Barbarian.
Bard – Lore, Valor, Swords
The bard has learned how to transform songs and words into potent magic through experience and knowledge. Bards are able to readily inspire teammates and bring the fight to the opponent because of their strong charisma. In Baldur’s Gate 3, bards are what you will know as the buffing, debuffing, or healing spellcasters.
Sorcerer – Wild Magic, Draconic Bloodline, Storm Sorcery
Sorcerers are the glass cannon, damage dealing class, and have a very noticeably low HP pool for it. Compared to their fellow Wizard class which has some utility built in, Sorcerers are just straight-up damage dealers.
Paladin – Ancients, Devotion, Vengeance, Oathbreaker
The paladin class is not much different from other games or variations of it. They are a melee bruiser class that is capable of tanking damage and also dishing it out in the form of holy and divine magic.
Monk – Open Hand, Shadow, Four Elements
The only class confirmed to be coming in the future is the Monk, the final core class from 5E.
Ultimately, the best class for you will depend on your preferences. Every class has its own pros and cons, and picking which to play completely depends on what kind of playstyle you like and of course, which class you think looks the most badass.
