Baldur's Gate 3: Is it Possible to Change Character Appearance After Starting the Game

The highly anticipated installment in the Baldur’s Gate series has finally entered the market with a dynamic global release. Players are now trying out a wide variety of new things that Larian Studios has brought to the table. From an immersive storyline to vast character lore, this table-top role playing game is slowly building a place in our hearts. 

One of the most beloved features of the game is the extensive character customization options that players can access. They can engage in character customization to a commendable extent. With the ability to choose from 12 classes and 46 subclasses, players have been experimenting with new customization options. 

However, upon entering the game, some players might not be happy with their initial customization choices. Can the appearance of a character be changed after the game begins? Unfortunately, the appearance of a character cannot be changed after the initial customization process. 

Can I Change the Appearance of a Character In-Game?

Upon starting the game, players are met with a plethora of options that can elevate their character's appearance. Players can make changes to physical attributes like hairstyles, facial traits, body types, and much more. They need to be extremely careful about these initial choices, as this will be permanent, and there is no way to revert to your initial customization choices. 

That is why players need to carefully examine all customization options and make an informed decision. Once an appearance is selected, and the game begins, there is no going back to customization. 

But, with permanent problems come temporary solutions. There is a way to temporarily alter the appearance of a character. This is accessible for players who have purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition of Baldur’s Gate 3. This version contains an item called ‘Mask of the Shapeshifter’ which can temporarily change what your character looks like. 

Entering the game, players who have purchased this version will need to find their way to the camp and search for a traveler’s chest. The Mask of the Shapeshifter will be inside the chest and is free to use. Players will obtain a shapeshifter spell that will let them change the gender, race, and appearance of their character while boosting their stats and giving them bonuses. 

However, the spell can be broken, and this is just a temporary change. It is possible that Larian Studios may incorporate in-game customization options in the future through an update.
