In his recent video discussing the challenges faced by emerging live streamers, Asmongold stated, "If You’re Born Really Ugly, You Lose. That’s It."
This reaction video was uploaded to his YouTube channel on 15th April 2024, titled “15 Million Streamers Are Struggling”.

Besides his World of Warcraft streams, popular Twitch streamer Asmongold is also known for sharing clips of his reactions and opinions as videos on YouTube. However, during one of these videos, he made a controversial comment that sparked outrage among viewers. His statement, 'If you're born really ugly, you lose. That's it,' came while discussing the challenges faced by streamers in China, where over 98% of them struggle for basic necessities. Let's delve into the details to understand what the fuss is all about.

Asmongold’s Controversial Remarks Trigger Outrage Among Viewers

The video in question was uploaded by China Observer, a news channel that covers events in China. Titled “Crying Out! China’s 15 Million Live Streamers, 98% Struggle for Basi Needs”, it discusses the plight of streamers in China where roughly 1 in every 100 people attempt to make a living from being a professional streamer.

According to the video, China reportedly has 15.08 million live streamers out of which 2% of creators capture 80% of the revenue earned from streaming content. It glosses over the livelihood of the majority of these creators who are unable to meet basic expenses, regardless of dedicating all their time to streaming.

Naturally, as the video kept playing, discourses about the state of live streaming were brought up. While one commenter in the chat mentioned that becoming a successful streamer involves 99% luck, Asmongold had the following to say:

“Well it is, but it's not the kind of luck that you’re thinking about. So, like for example, if you’re born really ugly, well, you lose. That’s it. You’re done.”

While most of his fans did not react to this statement, some found it appalling and odd coming from one of the most renowned streamers on Twitch. However, this is not the first time that Asmongold has expressed such controversial opinions, as he has shared similar views on the matter before. While some disagreed with his take on the matter, many fans do agree that there is some truth behind his words. As entertaining and engaging as social media can be, it undeniably does have its dark side as well.
