The Cold Hard Truth is a question that you get after completing the Ruins of the Faith seasonal questline. When the questline triggers, you and Cormond decide to put an end to the Malignant and you go to Velkhova looking for a solution. A lot of players have trouble with this questline due to a bug that we will talk about in a bit.
Before you complete the quest and fight Varshan, make sure you change the World Tier to 1 or 2. We recommend doing this because you will not be able to obtain the Foul Invoker of Varshan if you complete the quest in World Tier 3. It is a bug and we recommend trying to work your way around it until a fix is available. With that out of the way, here’s how you can complete The Cold Hard Truth quest in Diablo 4.
How to get The Cold Hard Truth quest in Diablo 4?
All you need to do is follow the seasonal questline and complete the necessary objectives. You will eventually reach the Ruins of the Faith Season Quest which leads up to The Cold Hard Truth.
Once the questline is triggered, here’s what you need to do:
Head to Cormond right outside Velkhova by following the map marker
You will need to speak with him and fight through the horde of Malignant enemies
Destroy the Malignant Corruption and fight Druslava
Return to Cormond
Cormond will now speak to you and ask you to head to the Velkhova Church Undercroft where you will find a ritual site. Once you speak to him inside, he will give you instructions on how to prepare the ritual.
This is where a lot of players are stuck. You simply need to find all of the Malignant Corruption in the area and destroy it. Once you clear out the area, you need to head back and light all of the Ritual Incense.
This is where you need to defend Cormond from the Malignant while he performs the ritual. Varshan will spawn and you need to fight him together with Varshan.
If you are not in World Tier 1 or 2, you will not get Varshan’s Caged Heart. After beating the boss, interact with Varshan’s Caged Heart and the quest will be complete. You can now use the item to spawn the Echo of Varshan and fight it for rewards.
