Top 10 Esports Players of 2020

2020 was one of the biggest years in esports and while it did have its dull moments like TI10 being delayed and EVO 2020 being called off, some of the most talented players in the world stood out from the rest. Here are the top 10 esports players of 2020 who won it all. 

James “Clayster” Eubanks – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Clayster was the biggest earner in esports in 2020 with who took home over $380,0000 in winnings alone. He played for Dallas Empire for most of 2020 and won the Call of Duty – 2020 Playoffs, earning his team $1.5 million against Atlanta FaZe. He also won the Week 4, 6 and 12 Leagues in Los Angeles, Chicago and London. He joined the New York Subliners in September 2020 and will be competing with the team next year at the 2021 Call of Duty League. 

Ian "Crimsix" Porter - Call of Duty: Warzone

Ian is a former MLG Halo player who transitioned to Call of Duty. With multiple top 8 Halo wins under his belt he is one of the highest-earning esports players in history. After playing with OpTic Gaming for four years and winning multiple Call of Duty championships, he transitioned to Dallas Empire in October 2019 and took home the first place at the Call of Duty League (Warzone) 2020 Playoffs this year. 

Zhu "paraboy" Bojun – PUBG Mobile

Zhu “paraboy” Bojun is regarded as the best PUBG Mobile player in the world because of his mechanical skills. He is currently a part of Nova Esports and 2020 was his biggest year yet. He beat the likes of Na’Vi, T1 and TempoStorm to take home the Peacekeeper Elite Championship and over $750,000 in winnings for his team. He also took home the MVP of the year and best player of the year awards at the event.

Dylan "Bosco" Bosco – Rainbow Six Siege

Spacestation Gaming’s Dylan “Bosco” Bosco is one of the breakout performers in esports this year. After winning the Six Invitational in 2017, his team did not make the headlines at the event for three years up until 2020. He left Obey Alliance in 2018 and joined Spacestation to take home his second Six Invitational win and approximately $220,000 in winnings this year.

Johan "N0tail" Sundstein – DOTA 2

N0tail is one of the best players in Europe and he captained his team "OG" to victory at The International 2018 and 2019. With TI10 being delayed to 2021, we will have to wait and see if OG can seal their third win. With four majors and two internationals under his belt, he continued to dominate in the DOTA2 scene in 2020. He and his team came second in the Epic League Division 1 and OGA DOTA Pit this year and will be looking to secure their third international win next year.

Kenta “glory” Sato – Hearthstone

The Hearthstone World Championship has been one of the most high-profile events in card games. Blizzard took a controversial decision to halve the event’s prize pool from $1 million to $500,000 this year but the event was a huge success regardless. Glory beat the likes of MonSanto, SilverName and Jarla to take home the championship. He is the best player in the Hearthstone APAC region and will be looking to defend his title at the Grandmasters event next year. 

Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen - CS:GO

Astralis have cemented their place as all-time greats in CS:GO and they have been unstoppable in the past two years. Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen joined the team this year and left an immediate impact in the five months he played with arguably the best CS:GO team in the world. Earlier this year he won Flashpoint Season 1 with MAD Lions and transitioned to Astralis and took home the Dreamhack Masters 2020: Europe title.

Michał "Nisha" Jankowski – DOTA 2

Nisha is one of the most talented players in DOTA 2 and holds the distinction for being the first Polish player to attend The International. He moved to Team Secret in 2018 and has been unstoppable ever since. He won OMEGA League this year after beating OG at the finals. Team Secret also won DreamLeague season 13 with a close 3-2 win against Evil Geniuses. With The International 10 being delayed to next year, we will have to wait and see if Team Secret can beat the likes of OG again at the grandest stage of them all. 

Matthew "super" DeLisi - Overwatch

Super has proven himself to be the best main tank player in Overwatch and has been a core part of SF Shock since 2017. He led SF Shock to a second Overwatch League win in two years and helped cement SF Shock’s place as the best team in the league. Shock will be looking to win their third OWL championship next year with no other team being nearly as consistent as they have been throughout the seasons. 

Jay “Sinatraa” Won – Valorant

Sinatraa was super’s teammate at the SF Shock and won Overwatch League 2019 and also took home the MVP award last year. After Valorant launched this year he made the move to Sentinels’ roster which is regarded to be the best in NA alongside TSM. They were unable to secure a win at First Strike NA after 100 Thieves. Sentinels won the JBL Quantum Cup, Pop Flash and PAX Arena Invitational this year. He will be looking to compete in the Valorant Champions Tour next year, which is set to be Valorant’s biggest esports event yet.
