Popular Call of Duty streamer, Zlaner was disqualified from the Twitch Rivals Warzone Showdown just a few moments before the tournament kicked off. Zack “Zlaner” Lane made a post via his Twitter account, stating that Twitch has disallowed his entry in its tournament. The Canadian streamer was about to compete in the $75, 000 USD tournament with Kalei and Chandler “Clutchbelk” Belk as a trio but he was denied with no declared reason. Following this development, Esports Talk's reporter, Jake Lucky speculated that Zlaner was made ineligible to compete in the event because he had cosplayed as Dr. Disrespect, a banned Twitch streamer, as the major reason behind his dismissal.

Dr. Disrespect formerly streamed a variety of games on Twitch until his sudden permanent ban on 26th June 2020. The mysterious ban caused the streamer's transition to YouTube and he has not appeared on Twitch ever since.

Zlaner deemed ineligible for Twitch Rivals Warzone Showdown

On Wednesday, 21st July 2021, Zlaner posted on his Twitter account, stating how he was “pumped” to join the Warzone tournament together with his teammates, Kalei and Clutchbelk. However, he received a message from a “Twitch Staff” which deems him ineligible for the Twitch Rivals event.

A Twitch staff member had an exchange with the Twitter community regarding this issue and they mentioned the eligibility requirements to join the Warzone tournament. They listed that the participant must be a Twitch partner or affiliate and is in good standing with Twitch, as well as the publisher and developer.

Nevertheless, the community pointed out that Zlaner fulfills all the requirements and there is no reason why he should be barred from joining the tournament.

Jake Lucky, an esports journalist also posted on Twitter a few minutes after Zlaner’s tweet, saying that Zlaner may be ineligible to compete because of his Dr. Disrespect cosplay. Zlaner himself liked the tweet, reinforcing the community’s speculation.

Zlaner has been actively collaborating with Dr. Disrespect, or also called Doc, in his Call of Duty: Warzone livestreams and the duo has been praised for having good chemistry and bringing positive vibes to their audience. Zlaner gained a surge of fame after he started collabing with Doc, who already holds a big influence in the community. Due to their friendship, Zlaner had proclaimed his refusal to stream on Twitch and this might be one of the factors that led to the current cold-shouldering from the Amazon-owned platform.

Who is Dr. Disrespect?

Herschel "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm is one of the biggest streamers in the world whose entertaining alter ego holds 3.5 Million subscribers on YouTube. He formerly rose to fame by streaming games on Twitch, but on 26th June 2020, the fellow received an abrupt permanent ban from the platform.

Doc stated that he was clueless as to why he received the ban and didn’t know what he could have done to avoid it. He lost a multi-million dollar deal with Twitch, and brands that sponsored him, such as LAMO and Razer, disassociated themselves from the streamer. Settling on a new platform, Doc made YouTube his new home and has continued building his career from there onwards.

Up till today, nobody really knows the reason for the mysterious ban and the community can only theorize.

Fans and the general audience had mostly reacted in support of Zlaner and some criticized Twitch for its unreasonable decision to bar the streamer from joining its tournament. As the incident is still fresh, we have yet to see more responses from both parties.
