Valorant is reportedly working on a new game mode according to data mined information by leaker ‘ValorLeaks’. Currently, we have the classic 5v5 game mode along with Death Match and Spike Rush as permanent game modes. Riot Games has experimented with other limited-time modes like Replication, Escalation and Snowball Fight in the past and a new game mode is expected to make an appearance soon.
What to expect from the new Valorant game mode?
The leaks suggest that “teams will compete by capturing points, both teams will race for the highest score.” The description lines up with the Control / Capture the Flag game mode that is seen in popular FPS titles like Halo, Overwatch, Call of Duty and more.
It is currently unknown if the new Control-style game mode will join the permanent playlist of Unrated, Competitive and Spike Rush. It is likely that the new mode will join the rotational queue instead, alongside the Snowball Fight, Replication and Escalation Game modes.
In most FPS titles, control-style game modes involve three or more capture zones which affect how many points you get per kill. If you hold more zones than your opponent, your kills will offer more points. Whichever team reaches the target score first, or whichever team is leading when the match timer runs out is awarded the win.
Apex Legends is also introducing the same game mode as part of a limited-time event in Season 12. But instead of Valorant’s potential 5v5 game mode, Apex is making things even more chaotic with a 9v9 format.
While choosing your spawn, you can also change Legends or loadouts to switch up your playstyle. It is unknown if Valorant will offer the same level of flexibility with its new game mode.
When might the new mode come to Valorant?
There is currently no official word on when the new game mode will be available in Valorant but we can expect an official announcement in the next Act. With the current Act coming to a close in March 2022, we can expect the new Capture The Flag / Control game mode to make an appearance in Valorant Episode 4 Act 2.
